Hey everyone.

Essentially, I am working on, quite possibly, one of the smallest, CC but high-powered red lasers. However, I am in need of a small battery... one capable of providing roughly 275mA at most (without essentially shorting it.

However, my limits are roughly 10-12mm in diameter. Length isn't a big deal, but the smaller the better.

It also needs to be li-ion (not lifepo4, won't provide the voltage necessary)... any suggestions for quality, low internal-resistance li-ion batteries? I am doing searches while writing this, but may as well ask for assistance as well.

EDIT: Actually, the smaller the diameter the better (going to make the host one solid object for heatsinking purposes).

EDIT 2: Found out about 10180 li-ions and 10280 li-ions. These look ideal for me (good difference in diameter from the usual 12mm maximum. However, I can't find any protected versions of these cells (I would deal with extra length for protection), but I need them to be protected because there will be no protection mechanism from over-discharge while the laser is running and I don't want to go about killing batteries every other day or so.

You could always install the protection mechanism into your host. The only downside is that you would have to isolate the case of the host. I have two builds that use unprotected 14250's, and have discharged them to about 3V without any problems recharging. The way I know the battery is low is when the output of the laser is noticeably dim.

That's too big, unfortunately. And I suppose I could use unprotected cells. Now I just have to worry about current discharge. What is a safe maximum discharge for li-ions? Is it 2C or 3C? (if it's 3C I can use the 10180s, but if it's not I have to use the 10280s :( )

what about LiPo like for RC aircraft, helicopters, etc?

Same LiPo you find in a lot of bluetooth earpieces.

Hey have you tried an E cig Battery.?

They are 3.7v and depending on the length of the e cig the more mah you will get.

You will pay alot for 1 but it depend on how bad you want one.

Those are ~180mah.

You can get ones that are the same diameter but longer witch have ~280mah.

I have an old e cig battery. If you want i can take it apart and see whats inside. I cant remember exactly the size as the last time i took one apart was a year ago but i know its small in diameter.

Well i think that is the cheapest you are going to get for a battery in that diameter or for what you are looking for.

I mean, I found a $6 10180, just not sure if it can provide what I need.

Oh. For some reason I thought LiPo were 3.2V. Will take that into account (just one LOC).

I took apart one of the E cig battery Here are a couple of pictures of the size of the battery next to a 10440.

This battery is not your traditional looking battery. It has solder tab and the battery is wrapped with some kind of foil like material.
