I am building my own test load using 1 1ohm 10 watt resistor and 6 1N5404 diodes. My question is why must I wire the output of my driver differently between the 1N5404 diodes if I am using blue or red. All i want to test is the mA the driver is outputting.

blue and red have diff erent voltage drop
blue = 4-4.5v
red = ~3v
but i think you can use 4 * 1N5404 for a blue

I think you'd use 6 for violet (405nm)

Can't the voltage drop for that approach 6V ?

What seems to work for me is:
4 diodes for RED
5 diodes for BLUE (445)
6 diodes for VIOLET (405)

^ at 100mA or less ;) ..... diodes dropout depends from the current, 1n400x, as example, are 0,75V under 100mA, but around 1V at 800 / 900mA ..... also 1N540x serie have a curve depending from the current, as any other silicon diodes.
