I recently compared the sizes of the red 18650 batts with an AW 18650 and noticed that the AW is a tiny fraction of an inch (~1/8") longer than the noname red 18650's that I've gotten from folks on this forum. The only experience I have with these is with some LED flashlights I own (my gateway drug to lasers), so can someone clarify what's up with this? are the AW's non-standard or are the reds or is there no standard?

The AWs are protected batteries, and the circuit board adds a bit to the overall length.

Bradpr;

A #18650 cell is by definition, 18mm in diameter x 65 mm long.

Some cells have added a chinese circuit board to the original cell,

increasing the length or width.
