Question [solved] Aixiz driver output?

Hello all, this is my first post, hopefully to be the first of many. I found this place little over a year ago and have had it at the bottom of my bookmarks since then, waiting until I had some money to spare to put towards what looks to be an exciting hobby.

I'm new enough to handling circuits that I decided it would be in my best interests to buy a couple pre-made drivers until I have the skills necessary to make my own. I bought these from the Aixiz site (eBay page linked because the information is actually formatted properly there):

80 - 500ma Driver

I'm looking for an output of 400ma, but even at or above an input of 5.5V, the output I'm measuring for both with my test load is maxing out at 253ma. This led me to check the page and note that this is what I should expect if I had replaced the 5.6ohm resistors with a 10ohm pair. I was suspicious that mine had shipped with 10ohm resistors instead, but this isn't the case (even though the numbers written on those resistors are different and made me even more suspicious). I'm afraid I don't know much about troubleshooting these types of problems, and I was hoping someone might have an idea what could be wrong.

Thanks for reading!

Do you own a multimeter?
Try measuring the current without a test load.

I was wanting to measure the current with a multimeter before I install the diode. Is it safe?
I was hesitant because Im a novice with a MM and wanted to make sure it was safe to test that way because I see info on is using a test load that I don't have.

The driver the OP mentioned is a simple linear driver, in which case directly measuring current is fine, it may not be ok with a switching driver,

What driver do you have?

The Driver comes as a 0-250mW driver with 10ohm resistors on it. Regardless what the listing says.

You have to change the resistors on the driver to 5 ohm in order to get to 450mA-500mA.

In this Picture you can see which ones you need to change to 5 ohms to get the higher currant.

Should be fine to measure current directly across the mohgasm linear driver

Awh, seriously? And I specifically picked those so that I could avoid that sort of thing. Silly me, expecting to receive what the listing says I'll receive.

Thanks for the help, anyway.

Yep. Well your getting 2 right.?

Well you can remove the 2 10ohm resistors from one of them nd stack them on top of the other 2 on the other board you will be using. This will give you 5ohms on each resistor and you will be able to max out the driver without hving to order new resistors.

Oh, great! Good thing you mentioned that, I would have never thought of it. (I think I've broken one of them anyway, so harvesting the resistors won't be an issue )
