Hopefully we will be seeing more of the Iron4D drivers, which are absolutely brilliant! But in the event that we won't be seeing more of them, I would like to prepare for the worst.

I currently have a 300mW Mitsu 638nm diode in need of a driver. i am using a C Host, so I need for it to be small, and to run off either 1 18650 or 2 16340's or 2 18350's.

I thought about the Benboost mini V5, and that would be super ideal....but then I heard somewhere that those are incompatible with the red diodes. So back to square one.

So I am thinking about either THIS or THIS.

I am wondering if anyone has experience with either, whether they would be a good fit for a C6 Host, and whether anyone has any better ideas. NOTE: I can not set current on my own driver. I WILL be purchasing the driver preset, which of course eliminates some options.

Thanks,
isaac

i would go with the round driver as it will fit in the pill perfectly and then all you need to do is run the leads though the pill and to the diode.

Thanks for the quick response! Out of curiousity...not looking to be spoon fed, just wanting a second opinion....for the 300mW 638nm Mitsubishi diode which current would you recommend?

Thanks,
Isaac

as i don't own a 300mW i think I'll leave that up to someone else to recommend
but it looks like DTR sells them set at 850ma which if thats what he has them listed at i would assume is safe. but i do know that drive was part of moh's JAD C6 so i know it's a good fit in that host, and I've used round drivers in that host before and it's alot easier to work with that way over a rectangular one.

Awesome, one last question(for now, heh): is Mohgasm's store still active? I never hear much about it so I dunno if his was kinda like MarioMaster's and stopped....If it is and anyone knows any details about shipping times that would be cool too. :)

Edit: LPF sorry!

Awesome! I went ahead and purchased a Mohgasm Round Driver @ 756mW and paid for 2-3 Day Shipping as I'm an impatient sod lol. Hopefully when it comes in I will discover that it is only my driver which is the problem....I don't really want to fork the cash for another diode lol.

PS-I'll be repping you again when they let me! Til then, here is a cyber beer!

EDIT: HAHA! They allowed me to rep the hell outta you!

the 17mm round driver will fit in a C6 host.

In fact, depending on the vf of the 635nm diode, you may be able to power it of a single 18650.
The voltage drop of the LD1085 regulator is suppose to be 1.5v at 3A. according to their data sheet.

*** got toned out on a cardiac arrest.....

Anyways, mouser says 1.5v @ 3a, datasheet says 1.3v @ 3A

at 0.5A it should be around 0.9v-1.1v drop from the regulator, depending on temperature. Temperature seems to have more influence on the voltage drop than current does... (per data sheet)

So with a fully charged 4.25V lithium, you should be able to power it if the diode's vf is <3.15v

at least until the battery's voltage drops below the minimum needed.

personally i would just go with 2x16340..

You can follow this video tutorial and see just how easy it really is

Just replace the M140 with the Mitsu and then choose the right driver current (which you have already done)

The C6 has got to be one of the easiest hosts to work with IMO

You should know better on a driver that you sell... (and created)
Your forgeting the resistor voltage drop

You will need 2 batts with a mohgasm

Cool, and of course the neg battery input comes in from the driver soldered to the pill, so you don't have to worry about the case pin on the diode or anything.

Well I certainly look forward to getting my Mohgasm Driver in and fixing up my poor red laser.
