Hi all, I'm new to the forums and am doing my best to learn everything I can. This looks like a great place!

I'm not very familiar with the hardware aspect of laser pointers, and am seeking some help.
I'm working on a project where I'll use a wiimote or infrared camera to detect flashes of IR light (50-100ms long hopefully). I need to wire an infrared laser to briefly flash this IR dot when a switch is triggered.
As far as the diode, this is the one I'm currently thinking will fit my needs, but if anyone can suggest anything better I'm 100% open to suggestions: 5mW 780nm Focusing Infrared IR Laser Module Focusable Dot

I need a laser that is 780-980nm, and 3-5mw should be sufficient power. It needs to be durable, and needs to be able to project a small (standard laser pointer size) dot. The link above is the best I could find to match, but I'm unfamiliar with all of this!

Questions:
How do I wire this to a power source? What type of battery should I use, and are more elements necessary besides just this unit and the power source?

Can anyone think of a way to make it flash for around 50 milliseconds?

For those wondering, I plan to try to make a laser pen that will communicate laser flashes as touch input using TUIO. More details available if anyone is interested.

Thanks for looking, any help would be great!

quote from that website:

"Operating Voltage: 3V-6V"

Use a single cell lithium.
