I know I have done this before. Sure it easy with 2 lithium ions, but what about 3? can I use either of them with a Voltage input of 12.6V (on full charge) Please god give me the answers.

Looks like I can get the rkcstr up to 15V so that will work but it will only be 440mA. I really want to get 550mA and most Groove drives get up that high. What I need to know is the type/name of that "diode" to be used to reduce the voltage and where to install it.

Just remember that all excess voltage will be burned off as heat by the driver.
So if you're only using 6V for the diode, the other ~6V are waste heat at the driver.
You will need proper heatsinking, is all.
I'm sure you knew that, though, just reminding you.;)

I figured it out guys. I actually have the "diode" I need in my parts bin. I just need to solder it in series before the driver to bring the voltage down.
I'm building a 12X in a 3405 host and want to use 3 10440 batteries. Hence the issue. Thanks guys!

If you can fit more then 1 diode before the driver that would be a plus. This will droop the voltage alot more and keep your laser driver cool witch will give you more on time.

Why not just use 2x 10440 Rather then 3. Just solder a dummy wire across one of the battery channels to act as the 3rd battery.:)

Oh and the name of the diodes you can use are "1N4001". There are other diodes out there but that is one of your common ones that you can pick up locally like at radio shack.

Ok I see what your doing now. You could always wire the holder to run in parallel.

Yeah there are a few options. I don't want to use a boost so no parallel batteries (or AAA) I don't want to use 2 cells because The current will sag as the voltage drains. I have the part I needed all along so I will just solder it in. How much does it drop the voltage?

I think it's about .7V

plus using grooves and rckstr drivers are cheaper
