In all seriousness though, isn't there a neg rep ban threshold? They never seemed to stick around so long in the past.

Not that I know of, if there is I'll enforce it. In the past I think the red users would usually end up making another account or start swearing at other members which earned them a ban.

Is it my imagination, or are massively red users not getting banned anymore?

It seems like there are an abundance of irritants with big long neg rep trails messing up the board and not getting the boot.
The part I find interesting, neg REP a mile long, still hangs around. Everyone was a jerk to them, still hangs around. People try to be nice and give them a second chance, screws that off.
At some point wouldn't a reasonably intelligent person figure out this isn't a good fit and move on by themselves ?

BTW: Although I have a long string of red like a 1000mw laser pooping balloons, I'm not all bad, I contributed 25 bucks towards the open source CC driver with nothing expected or asked for in return, just helping the community as well as other forum members who might benefit from it and in total have contributed over 100 dollars to keep this forum going, how many have done that? .001 percent?

I've never done well in any forum I've been involved with in regard to popularity, so don't take my attitude personally. That said, I have always produced something positive for each community I have been involved with. Give me more time and you will see I can be a valuable member.

I dare to also say, there are members here who have had negs in the past and came back under new ID and now in good standing, my sticking around is an example of someone who doesn't care about the red flags, if I did, I wouldn't have gotten them in the first place.

That is against the rules, to have multiple accounts to start over in terms of rep. Many have been banned for it, I doubt very many get through.

Just letting you know.

I am not speaking for myself, but have first hand knowledge of it happening but it wasn't me (obviously). Still, it tells you something that they are now in such good standing, doesn't it?

Regarding the open source cc I'm wiling to start contributing on this front myself, I have 40+ years of experience in component level repair and have designed a few things myself in the past. I could help, if some of you can get over the red burning laser on my popularity vote.

I'm not saying you don't have contributions to make or that you couldn't be a valuable member. If you have trouble on every forum, what is the common denominator ? I'm sure the monetary contributions are appreciated but if you truly want to be an asset to the forum, start with yourself.

Not long ago a veteran member made a post. The post wasn't about me, but it was exactly what was causing me problems here. I sent them a PM thanking them for taking the time to make it. I also took what they said to heart and did some soul searching.
We all have room to grow and become better. Unfortunately we can't whip out our credit card and make that happen.

Best to just do ;)

Ie, start helping.

The first version of the 2.0 design would be an awesome area for someone to lend a hand. I posted the design a while back. It uses a EUP chip, and is 1.2 Mhz (or something like that) and uses a smasher inductor. I don't have time to test it, so you could certainly lend a hand.

Meanwhile, I'm over here still waiting for oshpark to fabricate my boards. It says it was sent to the fab like a week ago, how long does it take o_O

Well, I haven't been active in a forum since 2000, the problem is, I will tell you where to step off, anyone for that matter.... and they don't like it. Money won't buy you love, but I do like to help and it's the reason I help that matters, not the use of money which in itself, is nothing compared to good will.

I need to gather all of the information together on the cc design and see what I can do. What are you doing to start, bread boarding it and then drawing up a circuit board? What software? and then when ready to have some built, who is making the circuit boards?

I have no problem with people telling me to step off, if I deserve it. If they are telling me to step off just because they are too full of themselves and are wrong, lookout, this mild mannered easy going guy has a very dark side, a mouth like an alligator and he walks the talk. :)
Good luck on helping with the drive

Ok I tire of conversation regarding how unhappy we can be with our faceless brothers in the forum, water under the bridge now. Still hoping to move forward with something constructive on the cc project. Can someone line me out on what areas need work and provide help to get going?

As mentioned before, what would be helpful would be if you'd be willing to read the thread, get up to speed, find the post where I teased a design based on the EUP IC and an external MOS, and then build/test it.

Both the schematic and initial board design are there. All they need is testing and, presumably, some resulting revision.

That's normal. It takes a quite a while to fab PCB.

That's what you don't get. We have faces. I think my record is jumping on my bike and riding 1200 miles, only stopping for fuel, just to meet a member of a forum.
I hope you can help with drives too. That would be cool. I think rhd said in a previous post one he didn't have time to work on. Maybe pm rhd.

I'll pm you an idea I had. Sounds like your more competent with components than me. :) I don't have time right now to devote to it. At least maybe you would know if it would work.
Good luck !

I was only remarking that often things are said which wouldn't happen face to face :) OK I will see what I can do.

One of the thoughts which comes to mind is if these devices cost as much as something you could order from China off of ebay, why not just buy some of the ebay drivers and characterize them to see what they can do? Maybe some of them are actually up to their stated ratings and have soft start built in and all at a price we can't duplicate on our own?

One of the reasons I don't like to buy drivers from China is that so many of the sellers outright lie or don't know anything about what they are selling. If I knew the real information about some of those drivers, I'd buy them, if they passed muster. Although building your own, making your own design is more fun as well as furthers your understanding about the devices :)
