Finally reflowed and tested a working 14.5 x 14.5 mm buck driver that is adjustable from 600 mA to 10 A.

Anyone up for scoping it?

Probably won't be open source though.

I like this one a lot. I used one of those neat 11 turn pots. It does 10A without too much heat. I'm above the range where I can test it from my bench PSU though, so I had to test it with 2x Panasonic 18650s for the input, and my 10A test load simulating..... well I don't know what it's simulating at 10A.

The same PCB layout can also fit parts that would enable it to hit 15A.

I would offer, but I don't have a testload for those kinds of current :p

Lol. I'm sure I could send you some sort of appropriate test load if you were up for testing it. :)

Why not make it open source?

It has been really expensive to develop, and the sum total of donations that have come in on all the drivers that have been open sourced is $0. That's okay. I've never pushed for donations, but at the same time, there's a very real hard cost to developing this stuff, and I had a minor heart attack when I looked at the total cost of my digikey orders this year. Small weekend vacation territory.

I also love Lazeerer's buck drivers, and have no desire to put something out there that makes it more difficult for him to cover his costs of pushing driver innovation forward. He's actually actively developing new drivers, so it's not a stale market.

When it was just Lava, reselling stale drivers at huge markup, and not innovating anything new, it was important to antiquate his drivers and force some movement. I just don't see that same scenario with buck drivers.

 Wow. Just wow. From a little over 1/2 an amp to 10 A. That's phenomenal . Beautiful drive. Great job !

I hate that that is all correct. I often find myself wishing this forum was more group innovation and exploration of a technology [lasers] and less so, "how 2 burning lazor." Either way, I am sure I could find the money to buy one or two from you if you chose to make some :)

Oh no. :( Tell me you didn't. :( There are certain expenses that should never be monitored, tracked or looked at again. Electronics and Tools fall under the "Black Hole" category. That money never existed. So it can't be missing. :)

Seriously though, I was wondering what you were talking about when you said no donations had been made. Then I went back to the first post in this thread and saw the Bit Coin info. Do most people have a BC account ? I have one but choose not to access it at the present time and have no desire to open a new one. PayPal would work better for me to make donations through. Which I have no problem doing. I pay for things I use. Honestly I feel guilty when I do assemble a CC Boost and all I paid for was the parts.

You can't buy knowledge. I hope you realize rhd what a gifted person you are, and I hope the forum members realize how gifted we are to have you as a member and your attitude.

Plus some of the stuff you post just cracks me up. "I tested it under a 10 A simulated load, not sure what I was simulating." That's some funny stuff right there. I don't care who you are. :)

I don't have/don't trust Bitcoin. Otherwise,
there would defiiently be something since
someone is already contacting me about one
of the drivers I put together.

Hmmm, maybe that's the deal. I sort of assumed that everyone nerdy had some bitcoin.

I'm really not complaining here. It's not an issue. Someone asked though, so I explained. But it's not a major issue that bothers me or anything like that.

I just looked at my digikey costs, and had a bit of sense knocked into me, that's all ;)

PS. It's not entirely true that there have been zero donations. I did receive a wonderful 18650 charger that I am very very grateful for (and no joke, has saved me hours of my life by letting me conveniently discharge test 4x cells at a time, instead of 1 at a time, awkwardly, with a hobby charger).

I'm just not that much of a bitcoin nerd. I'm a hybrid, part construction worker, part nerd. I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. Hmm, I think that's a song.

I personally never took it as you complaining. I guess we look at things different. Your right the cost of components to develop these drives adds up quick. What you never mention is using your knowledge and your time to develop them. I can always make more money, I only get a certain number of trips around the Sun. I'm betting at my knowledge level it would take me at least six months of all my free time to develop a drive that may or may not work.

Heck, I still get lost in the rats nest of Eagle.

I'm glad the charger helps and you like it. You were correct, there have been 0 donations. It was a gift. It was a way I figured out I could give something back. I'll check and see if I still have your PP info. If I do I'll send you a little something every time I assemble a CC Boost. Not only would it make me feel better about using them. For me it is just whats right.

Thanks again for what you share with us.

Sure :)

I just checked and my diodes are rated for 5A - but you probably want the full 10A range tested?

Yep, I think so. I'm pretty sure I ordered some diodes that would work as makeshift test loads for this type of situation. Just need to find them :)

Do you have 2x fairly decent 18650's? I've found that this struggles when testing at it's highest current on a bench PSU.

Batteries are absolutely necessary for scope
testing. Power supplies are too problematic.
Too many grounding and noise issues
