Re: NJG-18, 3 mode driver for 445nm with single cell

I must of bought the last one From US seller a few hours ago because when i placed my order they were there and now it says item not found.

I just ordered some more a little bit ago and am pretty sure I am the one that grabbed the last of them. I tried to checkout with 10 and it said not enough in stock so I tried all quaintness down to 3 and it finally took that. So I have three coming from them and I ordered 10 from DX.

HEHE. So your the one.:gun:

These are sweet. Having 3 modes is like having an arctic full power in a DIY host with strobe.:)

Shin thanks for posting these drivers.

Do the DX ones have the C1 soldered? The ones I got from the USA seller link you posted had it already done but they are out of stock.

My last driver from DX came without C1 connected.

@DTR
DX driver needs c1 fixation.
I think there are some differences between the batches.

Hi. ped.
Thank you. It's my pleasure if this can help members.

I ordered few drivers from KD...as soon as they arrive I'll let you know how good they are.

What I dislike about NJG-18 drivers is that some electronics are soldered on spring side of PCB. If you use hosts where you connect spring directly on battery you can't use heatsink for chip. The best solution will be if we discover similar drivers where all components are located on one side of PCB.

I use as P60 type drop-in module and the driver faces Li-ion battery directly.
Round insultion tape with center hole for spring, works fine.

And 5-pin chip is located at the LD side of NJG-18. No problem with my 2 builds.

What?
5-pin chip is located at spring side of PCB.
That is problem.

As I use UF-501B host I have minimum space for driver. There is just enough space to make contact with battery. I noticed that 5-pin chip gets hot and it would be great if I can use heatsink to make driver as stable as possible.

It's curious....

I was thinking about 8-pin chip, sorry..... 8-pin chip gets hot. Does 5-pin chip get hot too?

Re: NJG-18, 3 mode driver for 445nm with single cell

I've been watching this thread with much interest. Cheap drivers are a plus!! Thanks to all for doing the scientific research regarding these, especially the scope.

The 445nm diodes, as we have found, are VERY robust. They seem to "take a beatin' and keep on tickin'". I would definitely use these with a 445nm build.

My concern is the "other" diodes. The reds and, especially the 405's, I'm not so sure about. I'd like to see some more testing with those diodes. The 405's are soooo sensitive I wouldn't chance using them with those. Anyone want to do some testing with a PHR?

8-pin chip is IC for PWM AFAIK. One can bypass in order to use single mode.

Re: NJG-18, 3 mode driver for 445nm with single cell

Hi. Kevlar.

Red is case-negative and there is host-insulation problem.
NJG-18's power(-) is not continuous with LD(-).
But it's possible. One of pot-setting showed 350mA at HI.
There are some other single cell driver for red(HI 350mA fixed) but no pot for current setting.

I think 405nm is not suitable for NJG-18 too.
Current setting by pot is not continuous spectrum, but several limited ranges.

Hey, Kevlar, When mine comes in ill test a 405nm PHR. :) In the name of science.

I dont mind testing this if it can bring us information. If it dies so be it as long as it helped out iam OK with it.

Thanks guys!! That's awesome. +1 rep to you guys doing the testing.

I know those 405nm's are super sensitive so it just had me thinking if they would survive even the small spikes.

Re: NJG-18, 3 mode driver for 445nm with single cell

I've got one of these on hand, I quickly connected it on 1W white led and o-scope, added 220uF and 100n capacitors in paralell to output wires and this is what I got

what about these spikes?

Would you happen to have any other drivers on hand to test on the o-scope? It would be great to compare this cheap driver with other well-known drivers such as the flexdrive and micro boost drive.

Sorry for the double post.
