I just got this little guy in today... Plugged it in... the fan does not engage. Does anyone know if the fan kicks on automatically on this unit?

I have the same unit, the fan is always on when the unit is on.

For the YT video, only copy the numbers and letters of the video URL, not the whole URL. I tried to give an example but it didn't work so I edited it out.

My one is very very similar... but different brand and mines the 5A version. Mine only cuts in when it gets hot...

Try dumping 2A through something for a few minutes and see if the fans cut in.

No problem. I just got home though and mine is a different brand, I thought it was the same. I'm pretty sure all these units come from the same factory though.

I've got the 5A version and the fan activates at some preset heat sink temperature.

This brand is NOT okay for laser diodes. The regulation in current mode is crap:

(This is ~400mA through a standard 3-diode test load)

Looks like too much capacitance on the output, which is why it goes back down a little after it peaks slightly.

Interesting, when I was trying the benboost, going from 10uF to 22uF lowered that startup spike.
