High power cell would be nice, but I do think it's overkill for a laser pointer. Your NCR18650B is capable of around 20W of electrical power. Button tops are perfect, and should be the solution to your problem.

I don't know what kind of circuitry a lzsk has, but you will probably want to keep an eye on the battery's voltage. I.E. you don't want to run the laser until it doesn't work anymore before trying to charge it.

I got high power cell, and I didn't know that it was overkill, I thought it'd help with power but it's ok, whatever. I prefer the higher capacity but don't want to return it, I also bought the nitecore i4 charger that people recommended over the cheap lazerer one that I had and it's great. I couldn't find a 3400mah Panasonic with no protection so I just went with it anyway. What do you mean the battery's voltage though? I keep well on my duty cycle, but what do you mean run the laser until it doesn't work before trying to charge it? Like almost empty on the battery capacity? Does it damage it or lower it's life that way or does it damage my laser? Thanks for your responses.

by battery voltage he means the volts the battery holds. 18650s are 3.7V cells. when fully charged they are around 4.2V but as you use them they drop as low as 2.5V. you dont want to run the batteries in the laser at a low level, its risks damaging the module. basically, unless you have a DMM, you cant test the voltage. go to harbor freight and pick up a cheap cen-tech DMM (normally they are like $5 on sale) there are also a ton of coupons floating around for DMMs at harbor freight so check their site and see if the currently have one.

Thanks a lot ;) I can just check with the i4 charger that it is atleast at 40% and I'm sure my dad probably has a voltage meter.

When dealing with LiIons, voltage is the FIRST thing you should check when suspecting an issue.

My new batteries I have no issue with, the only problem I had was that the flat head one didn't work and I needed button top, when I put a penny on top of it it worked with my laser but I can't turn it off.

The panasonic 3400 didn't fit my LZSK and I removed the plastic coating and it continuously shorted on my finger, turned really red and hot, and I threw it with a pair of jeans on top. I'm lucky.

that plastic coating/wrapping is meant to stay on. its covers that strip that goes from the + to - so that it doesnt short out when making contact with something.

find it odd that they didnt fit your laser since mine has a fair amount of extra space around my panny 2900mAh

Dag, Misho. Some bad luck!

So, what cells do you have right now? Generally, it is not a great idea to use cells that have been dead-shorted, but depending on the cell, some are less risky than others.

button top for sure--you can see in the photo that the contact inside the tailcap is recessed and needs a button top.

Like Larry said, you could have someone modify your 3100mAh panasonic. The person doing the modification must be made aware that the cell is sensitive to heat, so to use a higher wattage soldering gun and be quick about it.

I am so tired of BS, gone through 5 batteries so far, flat tops don't work, others don't fit because of PCB, one exploded, and eBay descriptions said flat top button top WTF. I finally found a brand that is expensive, but is 18.40mm thick which is also button top and will fit my LZSK, I have a high drain Efest 2250 that fits it but it's low capacity compared to others. Here's what I got: 2 Panasonic NCR18650PD High Drain 10A Hybrid IMR Li on 18650 Battery 2900mAh KP | eBay
