I'm at chemo right now so this'll be a short post.

Could the melted solder (in the picture bridging two components) be causing my laser to flicker and output a weak beam?

I would imagine it's at least part of the issue, probably all of it.

That is the range select. With the two resistors bridged the driver can go into the higher output current range. Flickering is either caused by overheating or insufficient current supply from the power source.

What current is the driver set to and what power source/batteries are you using to power it?

The diode is the BDR209, I believe it is at 600mA (Whatever amperage offered 900mW output).

The batteries I'm using are the Panasonic NCR18650B (3400mAh).

The unit had been working great for about a month then one day in the middle of using it, the battery died and it turned off. I put a new battery in and it worked fine for a little and did the same thing. I thought both batteries were dead so I charged them both.
Put them back in again and didn't see anything, then I noticed it was just extremely dim and was mildly fluctuating in intensity, but never bright enough to notice an actual point. It looks like a square with a dull point in the center.

Well if you can't figure it out you can shoot it over and I will test it for you.

Yea it is either LED or not. They don't come back to life. You might get a flash out of a LED diode but that is about it. Anyway yea I can test it worst case I have what he needs to get back up and running and maybe I find it is working fine and then we can look more at his setup.:)

1. Check your battery voltage to make sure they will take a charge.
2. If you have a power supply, try that instead of cells

I don't have a power supply, but I have tried various batteries and I still have the same issue.

There is a defined square being emitted from the diode through a G2 lens.
