Question...would it be a good idea to put thermal compound/paste/whateveryoucallit between the driver and the diode tolet the diode heatsink be the driver heatsink as well?

You would have to be careful to only use one that is an electrical insulator. I think arctic alumina thermal epoxy would be the best option.
BTW thermal paste/compound/grease does not harden into a glue like thermal epoxy so for the most part they are not interchangeable and one must be sure which is desired for the situation.

For some reason I read that part as "diode toilet"
I would think that would be fine, considering the IC's touch the diode's baseplate... just don't get that stuff on the diode's face/window. And like ApexProxy suggested the epoxy hardens, I would think this would be a better option than some grease types, which when hot may have the potential to flow somewhat. Plus the stuff is just plain messy, anytime you have to mess with it.

Yeah clif, you put the diode in the toilet and that will improve its thermal properties XD
For my IRON4D build I opted to not thermal epoxy the drivers to the module because I figured the heatsink in my WF-602C would heat up faster than the drivers and I would probably just be adding heat to them. An 873mW Mitsu makes quite a bit of warmth in that little thing.

for the 110mw mitsu diode dtr offers would the 700ma be too much for it? if not what about the 1050ma?

Both are too much. Based just on data sheets I would guess 350mA to be a good maximum for them, it could be a little higher or lower I am not sure since I have never used one.

I like RHDs design better anyway. His is so thin you can stack two on the diode pins alone. Let's see that other driver do the same.

I hope people like the Magic board. I'm really glad Ben is making them for the community.
To be fair to the Estonians, they didn't steal my design. I thought they had, and actually said so once before .. until someone (rather embarrassingly) pointed out that they actually had a pin mounted design a little bit earlier than I posted mine.
