I've done a whole bunch of reading and I don't see any other way than a rectifying bridge. But there is that voltage drop across it so is there any voltage drop on yours or is the magic really "pure"

There's somewhere around 100mV of drop

what about the input current. If it is say 3.5A at 3.6V will it work? I mean will the voltage drop be more, at what input current is that driver running?

It will be more like 240mV at 3.5A of current.

Yeah, pretty sure it's a MOSFET full bridge rectifier. I can't think of any other way of achieving this.
