Looking for the right driver

So I plan on building a 1.5-2W 445nm, and I am not sure what driver I should use. I am thinking of using the X-Drive 1.7A, but I am not sure if this driver could run off of a single 3.7V 18650 cell, as it is not the "X-boost" variant. Any recommendations?

If you use x-drive, you have to use 2 li-ion battery. If you want to use just 1 li-ion battery, get x-boost. The x-boost that Flaminpyro sell is currently out of stock, but I heard from him he might be receiving stock next week

I also think I saw some "super boost" drivers in the marketplace (forgot what user sold them though). Not the x-boosts, but similar I think.

Ah, yes. Those are the ones. Have any experience with them?
I didn't tried before but to set the current,like other adjustable drivers, you have to use a testload to set it. From the threads of it, running it less than 1.8A will not require a heat sink.

Hi what host are you using that also can depend on your driver and battery configuration.
Some hosts can use 1-18650 or 2-18630's that would also determine what driver you can use if your using a M140 /445nm diode at 1.8mA 2 cells are required to give you 2+W .

I have never heard of a 18630, and even if they exist, a host that fits a 18650 couldn't fit 2 of them. A host that takes one 18650 will also take two 16340 and some but not all can take two 18350 depending on what brand of 18350, 2 won't always fit a 18650 host.

The 1.7A x-drive is an excellent choice for an M140 build if you are willing to use 2 batteries.

I am planning on a C6 host with a single 18650. While I do like the convenience of fixed-current drivers, I don't really want to pay extra for a battery extension tube.

I have an M140 build in a C6 and don't have the extension tube but I use two 16340 and it works fine, many people have these.

If you are going to use a C6 you should use a 16.8mm round driver, if not then be sure you buy the drilled pill otherwise it won't fit, I recommend the drilled pill anyway, there's very little room without it.

Yes, I ordered a C6 host from survival laser with the drilled pill. I already ordered 18650s too (it was a good deal and I couldn't resist, probably should've waited.)

Either way, I don't know of any round boost drivers and so I think I am going to go with the super boost driver and a contact board.

Check out Flaminpyro's site, he sells Lazeerer's round boost drivers, but I think he is sold out of most ranges of them right now.

I hate to do a shameless plug here (not really because I need the money)

But yes, the super boost driver would be fantastic to use for this build. 1.8 amps would be nothing to it, and it should generate minimal heat while boosting to the 445 nm's diode voltage.

If it's requested enough I might design a round version of the driver in the future.

Understood; the only reason that I mentioned Flaminpyro's site again was that the OP mentioned in post #11 that he "didn't know of any round boost drivers".
The round boost drivers are near the bottom of Flaminpyro's site, so I thought they may have been overlooked. :)
