Default Laser-driver with digital modulation

Hi folks!

Currently I'm working on a simple laser engraver. Therefore I have used
one of these 3W Diodes from DTR.
The recommended current is 2.4A.

Now I must be able to switch the diode constantly on/off to engrave structures.
The maximum frequency will be ~1kHz at the really tiny structures.

But as far as I know its much better to reduce the current flow through the diode to a minimum instead of turning
the whole driver off and on again as this will prevent voltage spikes and such things. That way my diode will live longer

Because it will be a tiny engraver the dimensions of the driver should not exceed 30x30mm (~ 1.2x1.2 inch)
So does anybody know where I can buy such a driver capable of at least 2.4A?

Even better for me would be a circuit which I can solder myself so I dont have to mess around with driver dimensions.


To sum up the features the driver must have:
  • > 2.4A current
  • Adjustable output voltage (or enough for that specific blue diode)
  • Digital modulation (TTL / PWM / whatever)
  • Tiny enough / circuit that I can build myself

That is the recommended handheld drive current, if you run it at that current for longer times (i.e. in a laser cutter) then you're going to see a significant drop in power after a while.
