EDIT: - Updated with "release version" of the PCB, and some photos:

Also, have two for sale (more later) here:

------

This is the prototype. The version that is still en-route will allow the entire driver (at 9x15mm) to fit inside an Aixiz module.

This allows single-cell driving of a Mitsubishi 635, at a full 1A of current. The ICs require no heatsinking, and will not impact duty cycle (ie, the diode's duty cycle will be an issue before the IC's)

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with these (full AIO module vs selling the drivers). But they're cool :)

Awsome ,if someone wanted could you change out resistors to say 700ma I like long diode life .....so does my wallet....

Its an amc7135 driver, so it has no resistors to change. The IC's on the board are paralleled and each one puts out 350ma. That board has three IC's on it to reach 1050ma, but if you remove one then it would be 700ma :)

Very nice board rhd :gj:

Thanks. This prototype PCB has the ability to scale from 1x to 5x AMCs. The Mosquito Red PCB (which in theory should be here on Tuesday) can scale between 1x and 3x. I also have a Mosquito Blue that should still fit within an Aixiz, and will allow for 4x AMCs (1.4A).

The awesome thing about using this driver setup for RED Mitsubishis is that there is almost zero IC heat produced. You can hold it with your fingers and it's difficult to sense the increased temperature from the IC case.

I just tested it in a real build running from 1x CR2 3.7V cell. The peak output power was somewhat humorous ;)

Nice! I need to get one of these too. :)

Even more so based on how bad my first shot at sodering some leads on a flexdrive. :(

thanks for the info man

Thanks for the support :)

I've been playing with this driver all night, and it's really neat. For size comparison, here's a host that I was able to create a single lithium ion build in. It's a C3 host.

From a single cheap Trustfire Blue CR2 (3.6V) cell, I've just LPM'd 700mW out of my Mitsubishi 635, with a Jayrob 650-G-1 lens. Pretty amazing. I'm really excited to keep an eye on the mail this week for the final version of this PCB (the version that will fit entirely within an Aixiz).

It's a hard feeling to describe - but it's just pretty darn cool to see so much red come out of a host this small :)

Updated the OP to include a photo of the C3 single-lithium-ion 700mW build in action:

Thats awesome, goodwork and +1 :)

Btw, don't the amc's have a low Vf (millivolts?)

Wait, another question :)

What lens are you using on the C3 build? That beam looks pretty damn thin :)

How long does the li-on last at 1A??
If it can hit 1A can it drive a 445nm?

(Battery mAh / 1000) x 60 = How Long it Will Last (in minutes)

It won't drive a 445nm from one cell, but it will allow driving of a 445 from 4x AA or 4x AAA batteries (even though that's not what it was built for)

Just a bit of an update:

- I have roughly 30 drivers worth of ICs ready to go now, and about that many PCBs of the miniaturized version of this should be here tomorrow or Friday.
- I'll probably sell these for $15 a piece, or 4x for $50. Something like that. With a buck or two for shipping.
- I'll probably also send the gerber files for free to anyone who would like them.

I've made a few further tweaks to the initial V1 of this driver already. The second version PCB actually gets the size down to 7.6 x 11.4 mm (pretty damn small), while retaining the ability to drive at 1A of current, from a single cell.

Nice! Smaller than a flexdrive :)
Did you use my advice, about making the ground plane all the way to the edge instead of 15mils?

When I finally get one of these diodes I am definitely use your driver.

Sure did - though not the ground plane but rather the diode solder pads and a few other design elements. It ends up about 20% smaller than a flexdrive.
