Just a thought while I wait hours for my 18650's to charge. Paralleling 2 cheap 600mah chargers to make a 1200mah charger. Comments? Opinions? Facts?
Love to hear 'em :yh:
Thanks

What do you mean by mah? AFAIK chargers aren't rated by mah. They are rated by voltage and current. If your chargers are charging at 600mA. That's fine. You wouldn't want them charging at 1200mA.

Plus putting two chargers together in parallel is a bad idea. Sometimes electronics will fight each other and one will end up doing all of the work and die.

The maximum current I'd recommend charging lithium cells at would be 1A/1000mA

If your cells are taking too long to charge. They may have a high internal resistance or the capacity is a bit large :p.

No clue, but if you really want a fast charger get one of those li-po/li-ion balancer chargers for 30$. You can charge a ton of cells really fast.

My mistake, typed it up in a rush. Yes I meant mA. Yeah I figured it was a bad idea which is why I opened this thread before breaking out the alligator clips :p

I had one once upon a time, but at the time it was my only charger. Well I sold a laser promising batteries and charger, being a man of my word I had to give it up. I've since ordered a bulk set of the little cheapo chargers to give with sales, but haven't yet gotten myself a new nicer one. Thus my frustration. In case anyone was worried, they just finally finished charging :D

If you have surplus chargers and don't care if they die. I don't see why it wouldn't work. Nobody could tell you how long it would work for and you may lose a charger and a battery in the process. Plus lithium fires are no joke. A few people almost lost fingers over exploding cells.

All in all I wouldnt recommend it :p.

Indeed. I picked up 10 (3000 mAh ) crapfires with 10 of the cheap single slot chargers for only $40. It was one of those, "why not?", situations. I think maybe I will make a possible sacrifice and wire it up in the shed and check on it in the morning :eg:

Keep a fire extinguisher ready :p.

It should work for a short while. My bet is one of the chargers dies and possibly catches fire. That or the cell explodes. I charge my cells on a bench top PSU and the cells get warm over 1A. Warm lithium cells are not good.

^^ When I said that I was referring to the great deal I got on the 10 batteries and chargers for $40. As in, why not buy them at a price like that?
But yes I'm always about safety, I ran an extension cord out onto the cement patio and wired up my rig about a half hour ago. So far so good :D

Yes please do keep an eye on your charging lithium cells as they can be a fire starter or hurt you when your not looking/paying attention :yabbem:

if you must leave them totally unattended take them out side and away from combustible substances.

I do use different chargers for my Li cells, a good one for the price is an Ultramat 12 because it will charge most any battery you have but it's cool
because you can discharge a cell and see exactly how many mAh it can hold :D

Most of the time I use a SW05-S055-05 Lithium charger which has an output of 1000ma and 4.2 volts.
While using this charger most all cells get warm to very warm and I am back and forth doing things and check on the cells during charging and when
I find one is very warm I swap it out with a cold one and then repeat the process till I have all my cells fully charged, this constant checking has saved
me from every having a Li cell explode.

I hope this helps others to the same end :D

I drank one Young's Double Chocolate Stout and three Fox Pear Ciders. I like opening with a stout following it with cider. :) now I am feeling good and about to go to sleep. Might take a goodnight shot of SoCo...maybe...
