I decided to take a stab at a higher current adjustable buck driver to cover the 2A to 5A range. This is what I came up with.

This is a schematic and board only. I haven't tested it, and won't be. I just needed some time to unwind, and Eagle was the answer :) I thought I'd share it in case anyone else wants to tinker around and test it out. I have no confirmation that the design will work (but I think it should).

As setup, the pot would adjust between 2.2A and 5A.

It's only 15 x 12 mm (it's a 4 layer board).

It uses the AX3116 which is a $3 IC when purchased 10x at a time. The other parts are all sourced from DigiKey (Digikey part numbers for some of the "tricky" parts are listed in text on the schematic). I haven't actually priced it out, but the whole board should be under $10.

Board and schematic files attached.

Nice! I don't know anything about building drivers- only the basics on how they work and the different types. Needless to say, I have a lot of respect for those that know how design them, and make them so small! I also love that you made this "open source", if you will, rather than making it all secret and making a big profit on it. +rep!

Thanks!

Though to be fair to those who sell drivers, the bulk of the expense of developing a driver is in the testing, revision, testing, revision, etc (which I haven't done). To get a driver to a sellable state costs money that driver devs have to recover.

Very nice RHD! Also, good to see you! It has been too long.

I like how you said "unwind" and "Eagle" in the same sentence, lol.
