hello guys, i starting to create my first laser and i making it this way:

driver:

module:

diodes:
-http://shop.ebay.com/items/?_nkw=200mw+laser+diode+650nm+Kip+Kay+project+suitable&_sacat=&_ex_kw=&_mPrRngCbx=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_sop=&_fpos=&_fspt=1&_sadis=&LH_CAds=&satitle=200mw+laser+diode+650nm+kip+kay+project

now i have a few questions to complete this project:

-is any item missing in the listing for a succesful project?
-wich is the best diode for this project?
-will this laser work?
-if it works, will it work for a good period of time?
-will it burn stuff?
-do you recommend me to change any item i listed?
-if anyone here know a better (cheaper) project with red, blue or violet beam, that BURNS stuff :)eg:), please post here?

Now the two only things i need to know to start creating my lasers on my own, how i know the best driver and module i will use, and anyone know any schematic that can send me so i can see where i put each piece?

Thanks a lot for everything you guys already did to me here in the other posts. :yh:

Hello and welcome to the LPF!

What is it that you want to build? A pointer? A lab module? Something else?

That "module" you linked is already a complete laser, with diode and driver and all.
But it is very weak and will not burn anything.

Avoid "kipkay" when searching for parts, you end up paying more then you'd have to.

In any case, you would still need some sort of heatsink to keep the diode from overheating
and a "host" into where you put everything: the lens, diode, battery, driver, wires....

Also, your list is missing a pair of safety goggles, which you need when you're into burning
stuff, because looking at the dot of a powerful laser close up is NOT recommended
and will damage your precious eyesight.

Also, if you like DIY, take a look at the 2nd link in my signature, it might be relevant to your interests.;)

hello, i want to build a hanheld pointer that reaches a loooong distance, and can burn stuff, also i want the beam visible (like when we project lthe laser on smoke). basically i want to point the sky at night (love to) and have fun burning stuff.

what i need for a cheap and good project? i read here in the forum that i can build one as i described for less than 30$.

so far i learned that i need:
-goggles (i need a goggle for each kind of laser?)
-diode (single or multimode? blue, green or red one? i like the blue because it is beautiful, but is it good for my purposes?)
-driver (how to choose the best one for a project?)
-module (what in fact is it? how to choose the best one for a project?)
-heatsink (where i put this piece of metal? is it used on hanheld pointers?)
-lenses (how to choose one and where i put them?)
-host (where i find them to buy?)
-test-load (how i do it? why ppl say it is not recomended?)
-the turn on/off button (how i connect it to the rest?)

i need to add here that i want a point as result, because i read that the beam can be oval, bar shape, etc...
also i need a clear schematic of how to connect all the parts and how to make a module, i search for it but never know if it is correct or not.

Don't worry, i know lasers are really dangerous, i will buy the goggles and use it carefully. I want to take this as my hobby because i am really stressed with my university (engineering) and i loved the way u guys talk about the parts, what will make the lasers better, all those incredible light shows...

I hope someone can help me, can't wait for my first build.

Thanks a lot for your patience ^^ , i am starting build lasers from zero, all i know is what i read from this forum, so i am really thankful to all of you!!
