Post Help Mr. Stupid

Never used a test load before when setting a driver (did it my own way but that's not important right now). Bought a 3A test load from SL (Jufran was out) and went to use it today and I can't understand what is wrong.
My understanding is it is pretty simple.
-Power to board (using a variable DC power supply)
-diode connections from board to driver connections on test load
-Set jumper
-DMM on DC mV across the 1 ohm resistor for mV to mA conversion (Not that it matters much butt using my Fluke 87V and yes I know how to use a DMM very well as Iv'e used them for over 30 years).

I'm not seeing anything across the resistor at all but see my readings change on the driver input to test load and this will vary by jumper setting and pot position.

The drawings I see looking back under search bar show that I should be reading from across the resistor. You can see the wires I attached to the pins across the resistor just so I wouldn't have to attach my leads on the board and have the board get pulled.

So, Mr. stupid would like to know what's up? No of course the board or anything else is sitting on a metal surface. That was just for a pic with different contrast. Yes I Know to discharge any caps on board also

Default Re: Help Mr. Stupid

This probably isn't the problem, but shorter lengths of wire might help. Maybe recheck all the solder connections?

Default Re: Help Mr. Stupid

Tried all of that and every solder connection is good by following the solder traces.
I'll try a different driver and see if it matters but the AixiZ driver shown is supposed to adjust from 20-300mA and with the driver set at max all I see is .5mv/mA. A setting is all the way up on the V DC PS and the voltage it's outputting is correct.
Maybe the boards are crap.

EDIT:

Well, unless I'm an idiot, your drivers work fine and the 2 Aixiz ones I've tried so far are crap. No issues setting the first one I grabbed of the 3 I bought from you. Test loads don't read what you expect when your driver isn't working.
I've got 5 more of those AixiZ ones still and I don't see how I am hooking them up wrong.
The driver information that came with the drivers seems simple enough but maybe I'm confused.
It has on one end Laser diode -ve or null and a Laser Diode -ve (I used -ve).
Flip it over for the Laser Diode +ve (using)
Other side has TTL Control +ve (not using)
Flip it over for Power +ve (using) and Power&TTL -ve (using)

How does that not sound right?

Put together an A140 with your driver at the lowest setting which was just under 1.4A. I wrote it somewhere but can't find it. Pushes 1.37W G-2 but I've got it in a DTR 510 adapter with a 3-element.
Trying to decide whether to do the other one in another adapter or stick it in one of the many hosts I've got awaiting something.

EDIT:
Did the other A140 and it hits 1.54W again at the lowest setting with a G-2 but of course went with another 3-element in a different DTR 510 adapter.

Now I need to figure out what I'm doing wrong with the AixiZ drivers unless they are all duds. I have (4) LPC826 that I've pressed already and would like to get at least one running.

Think I just found my answer in an older thread for that driver. Have to try it. Didn't know you have to connect to both the poer + and the TTL +

All figured out now

Built another Altoids this time with the 650nm LPC826 in a Peppermint box of course (red). 257mW G-2 and 226mW with the 3-element it's being used with.
