...The low power could really be useful though. For example, my Survival Laser is 1.25 Watts. It is rare I can use it safely at that level. But if I had a 125 mW low power setting, that could be useful for times when I don't want to accidentally start brush fires in the distance. :)

Try using a single fully charged 18650 battery. You will get 100-300mW depending on voltage.

Still waiting on my boards....
I'm going to finally break down and ask him politely for his source, hopefully he is willing to give it to me so i can order the boards myself.

It's definitely getting too long. I'm still waiting on boards also.

In the mean time, I've ordered boards from Seed Studio, and I have an EMS tracking number in hand, in about half the time. The problem though, is that Seed Studio sucks for small drivers. They limit you to panelizing 5 boards max, per 5cm x 5cm. This means that for a driver, you waste about 80% of the board for an arbitrary limitation. You're paying for 25 square cm, but they only let you use about 6 square cm. They also don't cut the boards for you, nor will they allow you to route lines between your boards, or even score with drill holes.

On the up side, Seed Studio lets you use a thinner PCB if you want it, which is nice for boards that are meant to be sandwiched between diode pins.

However, as a forum, we should look for another middle ground. Something without the assinine restrictions of Seed Studio, but with the ability to order your own panels (not wait on a group buy) and the flexibility to choose board specs and specify fast (presumably EMS) shipping.

RHD,

how is the http://micron20.com/en
on international orders. Have you checked? There is a calculator which you can use to see the final board price?

They are a Bulgarian company which I use, but can make orders internationally too.
They make the boards pretty fast and offer cutting the panel and vias holes. Single/Double sided and Aluminum boards of various copper foil size and board size :)

Decent prices I think - 16 Euros for 100x boards. Not clear on what their shipping costs are.

What's the difference between "cutting" and "routing - single pieces" ?

Is "cutting" the same thing, but for single pieces? Do you need ANY mechanical processing (cutting or routing) if you've just ordered your boards as 13x9mm boards, in a QTY of say 100? (wouldn't they just provide you with the 100x boards?)

rhd, I am not sure about cuttin and routing, you could ask them by email...
I ordered mine with routing and they cut the shape of the PCBs like shown in the photo above.. The boards are still on a panel and are easily removed from it... Only two edges left to file down. :)

about the 100pieces...
they might be on a panel or two or more panels, I am not sure how many pieces is the max quantity on a single panel.

He hasn't replied to my email yet.
I sent 1 about my boards, and a 2nd about buying the myself.
He said he'd check my tracking but never mentioned anything about who he buys boards from.

He has the boards 9 days after he places the order, so i'm not sure what's taking >1 month for every order.

I think hes a massive procrastinator, just like me

Is it just me or would he not be too smart to shoot himself in foot
and lose sales by handing over his PCB manufacturer/supplier...
unless he offers this PCB service as a non profit charity.....

Yeah, I have put off asking him for just that reason, but I got desperate enough and figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Jerry, I actually don't think he makes much, if any, money from it. The reason I say so was because it was almost closed down a while back because he was losing too much money. I.e. he is alright with losing a little bit and making a little bit back the next batch, but he can't just be buying boards for people =p

:( Maybe they will come tomorrow.
It's been a month now, and they were supposedly shipped 2 weeks ago. He has yet to give me the tracking #, which he said he'd do when he got home from work (2 days ago)

But i don't want to bug him. I know what that's like

I don't buy that....

Unless you are a charity... you need to make money to sustain
your expenses and profit margin.

The expenses come around every month... If he is not getting
enough orders to cover the expenses that does not mean that
he did not make much profit on the orders to date.
It just means that the orders have dried up or slowed down.
I know I wouldn't use that service just for the slow turnaround..

I know for a fact that PCBs can be manufactured very inexpensively
in large quantities...

He's not a company though. He's just a guy who originally started that just to help out Dorkbot.
