I dont have clue what i did wrong, hooked it up to my test load and set it, did simple wiring battery - driver - diode then all of a sudden white poof and smoke! I dont have a clue what happened! Ive built plenty of lasers with flexdrives before. No issues. :gun:

Photos (macro) of the circuit & diode would help enormously.

How fixable are 'fried' flexdrives? I have 2 that could use repair if it's something worth considering (?)

1 of them was placed in circuit backwards (me=idiot) and simply doesn't register anything on the dmm when tested. Same result as OP except I didn't have the unlucky smoke 'poof'. I have a V5 also with a 'detached' phillips screw head that came off the pot...

I can take macro pics of both drives if it helps or if it could help bhwollen in this case.

Yeah but im only 16 so I dont make much money. All the money i do make goes into this hobby!

Last year I was 17 and made minimum wage at an amusement park (summer job). haha i bought a camera, gps, new cell phone, lasers, food (wayy overpriced), and still saved half of every paycheck :) haha but yeah, it really is a good investment to look into. If you want to get one, just pm me with a max price and maybe some key things you'd want in it and I might be able to help recommend a couple.
Edit: Sorry, I won't thread-jack anymore.
