You could just power it up and hold on to it. if you burn yourself, you should probably heat sink it.

Wouldn't wanna run 500mA through me, but other sources say that the "5pin chip at the back requires heat sinking over 500mA"

they also have thermal protection.

you can run it and see if it has any problems....if it does, sink it.

Erm, a few volts even at 1amp won't even effect you. I have a boostcap at 2.7 volts capable of discharing several amps continuosly and you can't even feel a tingling when you touch both polarities.

Why not heatsink it anyhow? Its not that hard to find a small piece of aluminum and epoxy it on with some paste ;)
