Default Decent Chinese Driver

I've been experimenting with this driver quite a bit:

The output current is controllable by adding or removing resistance at this point. It comes with an R200 resistor. I've removed it on one and simply bridged it with solder and got 4.5 amps out of the driver with 8.4 volts. It got hot rather quickly so I thermal epoxied some aluminum chunks on and it worked fairly well. I don't think it would be feasible to go more than about 30 seconds at a time though.

I've also tried adding some other SMD resistors on top of the R200 (in parallel) to reduce the resistance. With just the R200 in place you get about 1 amp output. With an R250 on top of it I got right around 1.8 amps which is perfect for driving an M140. The M140 peaked at almost 2.2 watts without a lens on the LPM. The driver didn't even get hot at all.

Not a bad driver at all for the price!!!

Has anyone else tried these?

That's very strange. Mine don't make any noise and they have a fairly constant output.

You REALLY shouldn't heat sink inductors, sir. Not only does it alter the inductance, it causes additional heat losses from eddy currents. If the inductor is getting too hot, you're doing something wrong.

I'm over-driving the crap out of it, that's what I'm doing wrong... It was just for testing purposes. This driver isn't designed to run at that high of a current but I felt like pushing the limits.

Hi would this?
1W 1.6W 3W 445nm 447nm Laser Diode Drive Circuit Board Blue Drive | eBay
Be the same driver?
At default resistor what is the current at 7.4v
You said at R200 you get 1A output...
So is it when you add R250 resistor in parallel with it gets to 1.8a?
Or did you replace with R250
lol

Not having too many SMD resistors to play around with I parallel'd it.

Wink Re: Decent Chinese Driver

The title suggested something else... at any rate...

This is looks like a very interesting board. Having experimented with the Die4drivers board and another one I found at a parts shop in Yongsan electronics mall awhile back, this looks somewhat hackable...moddable
