This is a good warning thread and should be taken note of.

When I transport li-ions I never store two together without insulating the first. And I never pack them with anything conductive around them. It is far too risky and the consequences are not worth chancing.

It worries me that the best batteries commercially available are also the most dangerous. We should be beyond this by now.
**Good thing we don't have sodium, NaK alloy or Caesium as a battery material.

I'd prefer a Li-ion cell from a reputable company or a LiFePO4 cell instead.
No rebranded cell will EVER go anywhere near my property. I'll only buy direct from the manufacturer. For me it'll be Samsung, LG Chemical, Panasonic, A123...etc

Absolutely. I don't think they would be allowed. At least I hope not.

I tend to buy Sanyo's or Xtar's. I do have a couple of Ultrafire's though. They came free with a laser before the shipping law came about. All the companies you mentioned are trustworthy, although I haven't heard of A123.

A123 is a smaller company player doing LiFePO4 primarily for electric racing ( Isle of Man race for Electric motorcycles/motorcross..etc) They're primarily into nanophosphate and Ultraphospate cells.

Li-ion batteries can be made that would be very safe and never injure anyone.......
