Default cr123 compatibility?

Hi, I understand that a 16340 is a rechargeable version of the cr123a?

I may be mistaken, i did a bit of searching on the forum, but i still have a couple questions. As you will tell, im a little new to this stuff.

I just bought a chinese laser that comes with a "16340" battery.
I ordered a couple chinese batteries along with the lasers, but i realize now thats probably not the best idea, and I dont really want to use the charger it comes with, ive heard of those becoming disasters.

Can i use just regular CR123A in the lasers instead? or is there something special about the 16340, and i need to keep only those in the lasers? I dont want something exploding, my eyes already have enough to watch out for!

can i use these batteries in particular? I have easy access to these since i live in vancouver

SureFire 12 123A Lithium Batteries [SFBattery12] - $29.99CDN : Warriors and Wonders

These are only 3 volts, and the battery the lasers come with are 3.7? Is that still adequate or will the lasers run much less bright?

Thank you so much for taking the time to read, i appreciate any responses! thanks!

Edit: Im looking around now, why are all the disposables 3 volts and none are 3.7 like the chinese cheapies?

Default Re: cr123 compatibility?

The voltage of 16340's is 4.2 V fully charged and the min I would run them down to is 3.2 V (I think the absolute min is 2.5 - 2.7 V, if they hit 2 V you shouldnt use them any more). The CR123A's are 3 V new and so may not even work if your laser has a discharge protection circuit. Im guessing this protection will kick in between 3.2 V and 2.8 V so if it does work, youll only get very short run times and you wont be able to use the full capacity of the battery.

Try the charger, but don't leave it alone. Keep checking it and if the battery or the charger starts to heat up or if you smell something burning; shut it down and toss it.
I have had problems with the cheap chargers with 18650 batteries, but never tried one with a 16340, doing that right now. It would be cheaper to buy a Nitecore intellicharger i2 than a bunch of CR123s.

Update: the charger worked without incident, so give it a try. Never know yours might just work. But don't leave it alone.
