Default Case positive or Case negative

I would not like to kill my diode and my xdrive so I would need some expirences and suggestions. I am using an M140 445nm Copper Module with Xdrive and G2 lens. Notice the spring in my host is not on the tailcap and its inside the host. I would like to know what goes in first and last. From all I know, the positive goes in first facing the spring.

Default Re: Case positive or Case negative

If your host is like all of the ones I've received from Ehgemus, the red wire goes to the spring inside. For my wiring of his hosts I chose to use the red wire for the battery positive going to the diode drivers positive lead, I could do so because the diode I used had isolated polarity of both its negative and positive leads from its case. As you are aware of, or you wouldn't ask this question, some pointers are wired where the positive terminal goes in first touching that spring, others the opposite polarity goes to the spring. It depends on whether the case of your diode is isolated from its (-) cathode and (+) anode pins whether you would be forced to wire it so the negative side of the battery goes in first against that spring or not. I don't know if the M140 has an isolated anode and cathode from its case or not, tried finding the info on this page but no mention of it: https://sites.google.com/site/dtrlpf...45-m140-didoes

Edit: Come to think of it, I had a M140 in a pointer in the past and had the batteries plus or positive side going to the spring inside with the red wire going to the drivers plus input tied to it, so the case of the diode is certainly floating, or isolated from it's plus and negative pins. Here's more: Driver questions x switch

More here: http://www.lz4gv.com/Laser/Laser.html

FYI - The M-Type M140's average about 2.2W @ 1.8A using a G-1/2 lens. The low is about 1.9W and some coming in as high as 2.5W.

Sincerely investigate any of these three short quotes as new concepts and you've taken your first step into a larger world:

"I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness..." - Max Planck. "Everything we call real is made of things that cannot be regarded as real" - Neils Bohr. "What we call physical things and events do not exist independently of subjective experience..." - Deepak Chopra.

Each of these three rabbit holes go deep, ending up in the same place.

Useless troll fighting.

Default Re: Case positive or Case negative

Yes they are case neutral (case pin isolated) unless you conect the case pin to the + or the -, there is more than one way to wire a laser but let's not complicate things. Red wire to red wire, black wire to black wire. Battery goes in + first, - toward the tailcap. Be sure to use heat shrink to insulate your solder connections.

I think all of our commonly used diodes are case neutral except for some of the red ones that are case negative, and I think all of the IR diodes are case positive as are any DPSS modules using an IR pump diode.

Diodes that are case neutral can be wired either way, although this will depend on what driver you use and if there is continuity from the host to your module/diode. Do you own a DMM yet?

A continuity tester will be your best friend in these situations. They are super cheap to buy...probably $2-3

Some have a spring on the battery contact board and some don't, some have a spring at both ends and some only at one end.

So it doesn't matter where the spring is, it's just to make sure the battery contact right?
