calibrate/test my Caliper

I'm trying to get some precise measurements,
I have a $30 Pittsburgh caliper from harbor freight.

I know the procedure to zero it,

What I am wondering is if there is a common house hold item that has a very tight regulation on its size that I can measure and see if my caliper is accurate.

for example a diode maybe?
a penny? or what.

Thanks

If you were into body piercing then you could use stretchers to calibrate it. I know I have hundreds of them laying around. :p They're very tightly regulated for sizing.

Got an 8pin LM386? IIRC the case dimensions are tightly regulated for pick/place machinery.

Thanks guys

Measured an IC from TI and it was .2mm off, But id like to come up with somthing larger to see if it is off by a percentage or just a small amount,

If you need I can send you 20, 22, 25, 28, 30 and 32mm spacers to get a wider variety of data.

May I ask why you want to calibrate your calipers and how accurate do you actually need them? I work in a government machine shop where we make explosives (various mortars mostly) and if its ABSOLUTELY necessary ... I could maybe have one of my friends in our gauge lab calibrate them for you.
All though I would have to say its for me.

The government wants their weapons made with a .00x tolerance. So that's about as accurate as I can get you.
