boost driver wiring?

hey guys

if im using a boost driver, does it have to be in series with the power source?
Does a driver have to be before a button switch.
EX: battery then driver then switch then diode

As opposed to having the driver wired after the button switch? i figured if it was after the button the current would not flow without pushing it; and would not allow the driver to start up with full power.
EX: battery then switch then driver then diode

The switch MUST be before the driver.

If you have the switch between the driver and diode you'll either fry your driver by powering it without a load, or you'll kill the diode.
by putting the switch between the driver and diode, when you shut it off you'll charge up the caps on the driver, and when you turn it back on you'll discharge the caps and kill the diode.

i assume you asked because you are making your own host? make sure your LD also has plenty of heatsinking too.
