Hey guys I need some quick advice on which batteries + charger to buy off Amazon today. They're for a sci-fi lasers 501b 100mw 532nm.
Is Tangsfire a decent brand? Which would be best for my application? I'm confused by the false mAh claims.
Link: Amazon.com: li-ion 18650

I purchased some ultrafire 18650's from dealextreme (recommended on the scifi site) back on Dec. 18th and I'm tired of waiting.
I will avoid dealextreme like the plague from now on.

Thank you very much.

The best type of battery to get is a true name brand battery, aka, any company that makes electronic products.

Panasonic, Samsung, Sanyo, Sony, LG, etc, they're all good manufacturers. Nitecore also makes good batteries too and their battery chargers are fantastic.

Pretty much just stay away from anything that has "fire" in the name and the batteries will more than likely be okay. I know that they'll be more pricey but you get what you pay for big time when it comes to batteries/chargers.

The best 18650 for a long time has been the 3400mAh Panasonic due to the largest capacity and quality

Its often the best idea to buy from a fellow member----
for good deal on smart Nite-core charger contact csshih
our BEST resident battery seller has consistently been LarryDFW-

which battery depends upon your budget
I have been a long-time fan of 'free'
and free 18650s can be had by asking PC shops for retired batt packs for older larger laptops once you master the 'art' of getting them out w/o any damage you can test them for IR and that is when a good charger like the Opus is a huge help= it tells you the VDC when you add a batt. , it can measure IR- it can discharge then recharge and more. Mine can 'do' four at a time.
ever wonder about why some chargers are much cheaper??(0r free w/ purchase) and others are quite spendy--WELL you get what you pay for and the good ones will cost more- the cheapies can cause a fire- they are not 'smart' they just keep on charging.

so put the batts in the charger in the morning and remove before bedtime- some place these chargers in a place that cannot catch fire and spread- NEVER store Li-ions in a charger unless it is a /smart/ charger like the nitecore or even better the Opus.

so my 'free' batts are never overpriced-& if they wont run a laser all day.. no worries= I have PLENTY charged up ready to replace--

hope this post is helpful
if so plz send LPF a donation to keep this ship afloat.

I have all Nitcore batteries. They are spendy but are up to spec or over. I just bought the 3400mAh 18650 and put it on my Opus smart charger to run a test on. This charger is a must have for me since I have so much money invested in quality batteries I like to take good care of them and run periodic mainternce and tests.

In that laptop battery photo, those are probably 3x 18650 batteries in each of those wide pack, though they may just be special LiPo batteries.

The thing with recycled laptop battery packs is that they're usually pretty well depleted of their charge cycles by the time you get them to tear them apart. Sure you get a lot of them, but unless you need a lot of them and don't care about capacity, buying some decent new LiPo batteries might be a better choice.

Care to add the location information to your
profile?

At any rate, the efest LiMn are treating me
well. I have also heard good things about
the AW if you can find them, but watch out
for fakes. The same goes for the TrustFire.

There are actually 4 packs there picture is hard to see 4th one. Here is another picture with a 18650 for size. I have 2 of these packs one is still intact if anyone wants it.

Can you measure the thickness?
They might work as an upgrade for my Wii U
Game Pad Battery if they are under about
8mm.

Those are very strange star. Are they actually a single cell in the flat pack or multiple cells in each one? Never saw ones like that in a laptop before.
I've got a nice Asus netbook where the battery pack is slowly getting really crappy on me. Used to last almost 10 hours when new and now I only get about 2. Having a really hard time finding an OEM replacement. Pretty much everything is <20 bucks and you know that those batteries have to be really super crap.
The original pack is ASUS A32-1015 RAting:+10.95V 5200mAh 56Wh and the sticker is 1015N-PU17-BK
The netbook model is a 1015PN and even though it is multiple years old it has a separate video card and an HDMI output that will play full 1080P HD. Was the fastest unit around for a netbook when it came out. My wife has the version below it that doesn't have the discrete graphics but was still pretty nice. Daughter has the same one I do.
Because the battery pack is now pretty crappy I've still been tempted to buy a cheapo one anyways but it seems like a waste. A lot of times there's really only one cell that has gone bad and I would end up with some decent 18650 if I replace it.
