Best High Current Batteries?

I am going to be making a high power flash light, hopfully in the 50-100w range.

What kind of batteries should I be looking at?
I tested my friends 18650 Ultrafire 3000mah batteries,
Hooked them up to 1.5 ohms, and they could only do 2.2 amps (Close to full charge) or ~7watts.

Would a different brand of battery be able to do 10+ Watts?

I would assume that the higher cappasity would mean the higher peak current/voltage, but mabye that is incorrect.

Flaminpyro:
Do you sell batteries?

I'm dying to find an 18650 or two 16340s that can do crazy high current (like 8 or 9A)

Get IMR cells for high current draw. A123 Systems make 26650s that can withstand 70A current draw.

I had a thread about batteries awhile back, but no one paid attention to it :(

Here is the link *here*

I originally got it from CPF and it compares many 18650 batteries for all specifications.

I hope this helps!

Current 2600mah Sanyo/Panasonic 18650 cells can output about 5.2 amps.

They do make some "high-current" 18650 cells that can output ~15 amps at a lower capacity. They are harder to find.

I use #26650 cells or Li-Poly for amp draws over 5 amps.

Jufran - where do you actually purchase IMRs from ?

I'd love to find some IMR 16340s or 18350s. If they had even a third of that current rate for their IMR1600 (20A), I'd be happy.

EDIT: If I may ask another question (that doesn't need precision) - If a li-ion has around 4.2V at full charge, if I was discharging at say 8A, what would you expect that voltage to actually be? 4.1? 4.0? 3.0?

I know it sags under a load - just curious (roughly) by how much.

I think you can find some on eBay or lighthound.com. Other than that I'm not sure.

Great! Looks like this will be possible then

So when a 26650 is at 10A what does the voltage drop to?
How about Sanyo/Panasonic 18650 cells @ 5.2 amps?
and the LiFePO4 18650 Rechargeable Cell: @ 21A?
Never mind that, I found the datasheets :yh:

Also where is a good place to buy batteries like this, Batteryspace.com?
Flaminpyro do you have some for sale?
