Ben Boost Mini and Osram PL450B?

Hi,

I recently purchased some Ben Boost Mini drivers from Moh and want to do a single mode 450nm build. With Ben's help (thanks Ben!)I found I need 1.9 Ohms of resistance to get the current to 100mA. I have some 1R8 resistors coming so I can set the current to ~ 100ma or 200ma depending on how many I use (changing those will be interesting!).

My question is whether the driver will be safe for the Osram PL450B. I've seen some posts about 405nm diodes dying with the original driver but it wasn't clear if it was a bad batch of diodes or start up spikes causing it. I'm guessing with my low current I should be safe.

Has anyone used the Ben Boost Mini for a single mode build?

Thanks in advance!

Chris

If I remember correctly, the spike problem has been solved on the new batches. And the PL450 is a tough little diode as others have driven it over several times the datasheet rating. Not 100% sure though. :p

The newer version (mini) has been totally fixed. Ripple is less than +/- 2.5% even at >1A in my testing.

I run my 520nm green diode from a benboost mini btw! Those are probably the most sensitive diodes we have right now.

Great! Just what I was hoping to hear!

Any tips on changing the resistors? I've used the cheap soldering pens in the past but have a weller soldering station coming. I think I saw something about using a hotplate?
