Default Batteries

I'm so confused. I need a couple 18650 flattops. the more I read the more confused I get. Protected or not protected? Searching this forum I've run across recommendations for any of three different Efests, AW, Sanyo and several others. IMR or not? I know to some extent you get what you pay for but still. What do you suggest? Not on a tight budget but don't need the Cadillac (or is it Lexus now) of batteries either. These will be for a Sanwu I just ordered. Thanks all!!

I use Efrest for my lasers, and haven't had a single problem with them! Sure, they aren't the cheapest batteries around but the work darn well!

Just my input

Hap is right, Efest is very good. I actually use mostly all nitecore cells but Efest might be a little better. You just have to remember that IMR is usually high drain and you probably only need those for really powerful lasers. If it's like 1-3 watts regular decent cells are probably good as long as you don't pay 3 bucks a piece for them lol! Yeah I'd prefer Lexus over cadi

Ok, Efest it is. It'll be 1.6w 445nm. Looks like all the Efests are IMR. Red/white, green and purple. The red ones are cheapest looks like. Good enough? Point me toward a decent charger if you could please. I think Lexus has the quality but Caddy sure has some nice sporty models out. And I get a GM employee discount.

I actually like the Sanyo NCR18650GA. 3500mah with 10A continuous discharge. I got mine from illumn for $6 a piece and they have some protected ones if you need it.

Most here don't use protected, correct? Regarding the 10A discharge stat, smaller is better? I've seen up to 35A I believe.

Maybe someone else will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see the need of anything over 10A. 30A seems like overkill for a device that's not drawing nearly that amount of current. Protected is good for in the case that you overdischarge your battery. The protection will cut it off at a minimum voltage.

As far as the protected batteries go. They are a good idea with high drain devices, including lasers. But the protection electronics makes the battery just a tiny bit longer, which can possibly cause fitment issues. Especially with full custom hosts.

I've used Panasonic and Efest. My Efest was for my Vaporizer specifically though. I no longer Vape though and sold it with the Vape. I have some Green Panasonic ones that are wonderful. But I would recommend either.

Default Re: Batteries

EFest IMR and LG INR are what I use and you can see they hold up voltage under load very well, even the mighty Panasonic NCR will sag where the EFest INR holds it's voltage up under load, now those high drain grey Panasonics also hold up under load, but the EFest is better. 3500 mAh vs 2250 mAh, and 35a max discharge vs 10a max discharge for the 18650's.

Typically you trade mAh for high discharge without sag, but EFest and LG have the latest formulation, AW I have not tested but I hear they are good.

There are rebranded cells and some specialty cells, but if you have a high drain application then EFest is a good choice.

Sanyo's definitely not middle of the road. Arguably the best 18650's out there.
