Re: New Boost Driver! AtMa-Driver *UPDATED* Smallest driver ever!

Ok so i thought i would post a picture of the dimensions in eagle. This is zoomed out on purpose and i will not zoom in more then i did.
This is just to show I've gotten about as small as i think it can possibly get :D

and I've ordered these smaller boards and still waiting on the components :)

Thats a great news, i hope you've already got it all figured out and it all goes as intended!!
a working prototype with extensive testing would be a nice exhibition!
Mind u its a lot of work but trust me u dont want them to go bad inside a laser and add every kind of protection in it that you could find, reliability always makes it to the finish line !!
Once again!!
Congratulations on the ATmA Drive!!

:thanks:

Just waiting on the parts and boards then I'll make one or two and test them with a test load to make sure they output what I'm expecting and then if that goes good I'll incorporate it into one of my builds and see how it goes from there ;)
O and it does have reverse polarity protection alon with voltage ripple protection :D

I have a 4X 650nm diode on death row... If you can get the amperage down to 83mA I could see how it does with a 650nm diode.

I can go at 60mA and then 110mA for now....
And this driver outputs too much for red. I made a mistake saying 635 and 650 but I might make a different driver for those

I think this will be a great blue ray driver when its ready but why does no one want to build a buck type driver its kinda got me wondering

Yes I saw and that's the pure bucking driver were as there are 3 or 4 pure boost drivers so why are they more popular than buck drivers

I don't think it's about popularity of the drivers its just what ic everyone chooses to use. Some people chose boost only capable ic's and some chose some capable of buck and boost. I found that most buck-boost ic's I found were overall larger by a bit and required more external components so the board would have to be a bit larger. I wanted to make the smallest boost driver so I chose a tiny ic which can boost only :D

This ones still smaller ;)
but every driver has something different over a different one

How goes the driver? Haven't heard anything come out of here lately.

I've actually just updated my site with some more information. I am expecting the boards any day now...... According to tracking the parts are 15minutes away and will be delivered tomorow.
You can check the status here AtMa-BoostDriver
I update that quite often. I will update this thread once I receive the boards and parts and Im gonna do some more testing on my second revision. I wasn't happy enough with my first version. They worked but I wanted them to be better =)
And don't worry I'm not stopping I'm just waiting :pop:

Re: New Boost Driver! AtMa-Driver *UPDATED* Smallest driver ever!

I really hate to do this, but since you are posting links to buy the driver I have to say it. NOBODY buy this until it has been tested! (and confirmed) There is no way you will get 1000ma out of this board with a tiny little inductor.

Here's a little hint:
Input current=switch current=inductor current
Output current=/=inductor current or switch current

Your inductor has to be able to handle your maximum switch current without saturating. There is a reason we chose 3A+ inductors for the open source boost driver. I believe your inductor had a 1.3A saturation current. To get 1000ma out to a 445 diode from 1.3A the driver would need to be >95% efficient.

Also the DCR of the inductor is a big factor. And I seen your list of set resistors and it was extremely jacked up. I thought you would test out your board and realize there were a lot of things for you to work on, but now you are apparently already pre-selling them!

I'm all for more driver options, but I'm not going to sit here and watch you rip people off trying to sell them an untested driver you don't have yet that I know won't work as advertised.
