I have ordered parts and boards for both of the old "open-source" boost drives that were made by forum members to attempt and reflow them myself and run some tests on my oscilloscope, as well as hooking up to a test load and seeing what they are capable of.

I am wondering if any of you guys here have created these, or if you have any that are in working condition that I could take a peek at? I would also be interested in buying boards, or parts for building these if you have them left over. I have already ordered some of both types of boost drive boards (benboost, and ccboost).

I will not plan to buy and sell these, because neither creator will reply to me via PM about them. I know that I wouldn't sell them without their permission, nor am I even sure if they work properly to be selling to everyone.. This is strictly for my own testing purposes, and if they work well I will probably use them in some of my builds. I would be glad to help put some together though if some of you guys needed one, would need to help assist in part cost and we could try to tackle this issue of a lack of boost drives!

I have already reflowed my own buck driver with modulation, but it's extremely large right now... If i can ever get it down to a pointer size project I will share it, just saying I have some experience with the soldering. I also use reflow gun, and I have a Eurotherm controlled "toaster oven" mod.

Let the talk begin!

Why don't you use the A6211, it can be done in a really small pcb, mine can be done with only 11mmx10mm.

And i guess i'll need to continue my 8A driver, still in progress right now, and hopefully it can be used as a cheaper alternative to the BlackBuck 8A (which is pretty expensive).
FYI the dimension will be about 11mmx20mm.

EDIT:
Whoops.. sorry, didn't read the "boost" part. :D
i guess i'll look for a nice small boost IC capable of several Amp.

Go with mini v5. Thats the best one. The sot-23-5 package just can't handle enough power. The ones with a thermal pad work much better. I have builds with them like 3 years old maybe more and still work great.

Sorry about the pm I don't check my messages here too often anymore!

Come on guys.. where is everyone who's been asking for boost drivers? Let's participate in this and solve our issues.

Here's what I got in today.. making progress on all counts.

If your interested in trying to make your own I will share the link to oshpark v5 board and the shared parts list on digikey. You have to get the right parts list on digikey as some parts are out of stock on original lists.

I am still interested. Do you still have the info from my PM?

Not sure if I do, I don't really plan on selling these as I am not sure how ben or RHD would feel about it but if you want some help with one lmk and we will get one made and sent to you;

Just an FYI this is gonna be something you will need to test and maybe modify before using it. I did successfully run my first ben boost on a test load today. Oscilloscope and more tests this weekend. Also waiting on some paste to arrive to attempt a build of the CCBoost driver as well; All parts are in for it except paste and PCB.

I think we need some driver tutorials in the "Tutorials, Help & Repairs" section, I'd like to wright them myself, but I have to figure out how to build the drivers first...

I'm not quite ready for a tutorial yet, but maybe soon. It's pretty simple if you know how soldering works. It's not an easy task for your first time, once you reflow in an oven you are like wow why have I been doing this the hard way for so long.

DigiKey Cart

If you would prefer a Constant Current Boost Driver visit RHD's thread, I haven't got everything to flow these yet. Waiting some odds and ends.

Google for a solder paste that fits your needs. I plan on making a stencil as well from oshstencils.
