445nm casio diode/ v5 flexdrive test load problem

i purchased a v5 micro flexdrive to power my 1w 445nm blu ray diode. i have not hade any problems except the test loads i build seem dead. that is to say that when i read from any where on the test load besides the leads coming from the driver i fail to get any indication that there is even a current. i first built a 6 rectifier diode (1n4001) test load with a 1 ohm resistor preceding the diodes. it gave no reading except where i got the readings on the test loads i mentioned. i then tried the test load the flexdrive manual suggested( 1ohm resistor followed by 4 1n4001 diodes). it failed with flying colors. my input voltage comes from 3d cell batteries(4.5v) the flexdrive is hooked into the switch assembly of a maglite 3d cell. i have the flexdrives potentiometer set to max, so i could understand if i fried the test load. BUT there isn't even any smoke or heat coming from the test load. here is the picture of the complete circuit. any help will be appreciated.
