Great! :yh: Thanks.

Now I'll just wait for the heatsink that must arrive in the next weeks, and them, my first high power blue laser will be complete!

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! :cryyy: :cryyy: :cryyy:

:spank: :spank: :spank:

I KILLED my U$40,00 LD!!!!!

I just soldered it with the polarity reversed, now it's a led, don't lase anymore, tried it at 400mA and nothing!

:cryyy: :cryyy: :cryyy:

I don't know how I done this, I "almost" ever care about the polarity, I only noticed my mistake when the LD doesn't lighted up.

Now, I'll look for another LD, and when I get the budget, buy it.

Sorry to hear about your loss. It was going really well too.
I've never killed one due to reverse polarity, but many an innocent diode has died because of me.
I'm actually way overdue to fry one.
Hope you can replace it soon.

Yeah! Thanks! I'm looking for a 1,4W 445nm diode OSRAM PL-TB450, but since it will come from China, will take about 2 months to arrive!

Wow. Stuff I've been ordering here "lately" has been showing up faster than normal. Either that or I have lost total comprehension of time.
Hope you get it going soon ! Good luck !

From China to Brazil usually takes up to 1 week, but our customs scan is sloooowww!

Since I bought a 1,4W laser diode that will take long time to arrive and my heatsink doesn't arrived yet, I was thinking in change drastically the shape of my laser.

I like to work with MDF shapes and the final result I think is very good (see my signature photo), that's what I want to do:

The MDF box will be the same size of the heatsink and will only contain the driver.

It will be 3.3 cm X 5 cm X ? cm (depends of the internal heatsink), for this I must get a 12V 2A power supply that's will let the 317 run without overheating, at this amperage it will be enough to power up my three lasers at the same time, since the red uses 500mA, the purple uses 100mA and this will use 1,2A.

What you think? I tested the LM338 and it seems to run cooler that LM317 at 1A, will be a good improvement.

I think it looks good. All that really matters though is if you like it.
I like most projects people build as long as they take pride in their work whether it's something I would build or not.

Glad the LM338 worked out for you. I haven't had any time lately to work with mine, been working a lot and trying to get my garage painted before my mill shows up. :)

Thanks :yh:

I find that none of my heatsinks will fit into the exact size of the laser module, the driver must be larger than it, only having passive cooling with a large heatsink inside will let me with a duty cycle up to 5 minutes (can be more, the 338 have thermal protection, but I don't want to test it).

Just received the laser module:

But since I killed the LD, I must wait for the new arrive, more one month awaiting :cryyy:

It came with a 405/445nm three element glass lens, I think the output will be close to 1W since the PL-TB450 is 1,4W plus the loss into the lens.

Those are a good module. I use them in
some of my builds. One was used in the
initial testing of the PL TB450B.

Nice! :yh:

Do you know the duty cycle I can have with this module with the 1,4W LD? With this info I can chose the right heatsink for the driver.

That does look pretty nice ! I've never built one like that. After I finish this next build, I think I want to build something like that.
Something with a longer run time that doesn't set everything on fire would really help my photography skills.

Thanks for the link. That seems like a pretty good deal. I have a PLTB450B diode I could use, a drive and a small PS. I could under drive the diode, I can't believe I just said that :)
That would be a lot of fun, easy, cheap and actually useful.
OK. You talked me into it

I glad it was useful!

I'm just cooking the new design of my laser, I'll use a small heatsink with one side flat and one side with the spikes.

The part with the spikes will be outside, I'll mount the box directly on the heatsink.

That's will help cooling and make the driver have a uncommon appearance.
