16340 Conundrum SOLVED and the BEAST is awake!

Aren't there any battery extention tubes availible anymore ?

I love mine for the same reason...

I have a PL808 that does a crazy 4500mW but it took 16340's and did just over 3000mW

Now my host takes 2×18650 ''problems solved''

I am not sure that you are correct on the JL Pro lasers.
True that with the first generation PL-Es two tubes can be used for all.
the only thing that cannot be done is to use four 16340s(w/ the sleeves)

however I have tried and so far i find that the Pro series while maybe intended to be used with two batt tubes did NOT turn out that way.
I have one in my hand right now- and when attempting to add a second batt tube the threads must not match as just after one or so turns it stops threading smoothly and I feel if forced damage may be done. Also if you do not force it on you will have a gap that shows the threads- sure you could add a black O-Ring to hide the gap but that is not a very professional way.

ALSO I found that two non protected li-ions are NOT quite long enough to make a solid connection- so that means you will need to use a spacer(or TWO) and that too is not very pro.

This is mentioned by Gray in our GB thread- and yes its true that the slick flyer we got show a Pro with two tubes but that is just a pic.

I would never force parts together on the laser of a buyer or one I own.

I fully agree that we need to be able to use two li ions especially on the new 2W 445 that uses the 9mm diode- it will drain cheap batteries almost instantly and even good ones do not have an acceptable run time. I have asked Gray for a solution to all this even if it is ONLY for the 445 Pros-

I do not think there will ever be a Pro Pl-E (except 445)that we can run on two KKs or high quality 18650s= as fully over-charged to >4.3 vdc just adds up to too much vdc for the others to handle- clearly showing that the build inside is also different from the older Pl-Es( also noted by Gray)

The big problem ATM is getting large orders of Li-Ions out of China-- the shippers over there keep changing the rules and our box 'o batts is bouncing back and forth like a ping pong ball (pun intended)

but that ^^ is a whole new problem ATM.

intentionally lying about the contents of a package handed to the USPS if caught will get you a min. 250$ fine. An exception is sending batts in the 'intended device' like a cell phone- together n/p ...but sent alone the Li-ion cell phone battery is banned. I have asked about the intended device part at three post offices and none of the workers there knew anything about this. Except one who told me cell phones are ok but batts alone are NOT.

n/p Shake- I agree- first time I used an 800 PL-E 532 with BOTH the second tube AND the JL 10X BE i got a power rush just holding it and not even turning it on.

AFAIK JL -planned to have the new Pro series capable of the second tube and battery- I see in the nice slick PL-E Pro Flyer a pic with three Pro Pl-Es and two batt tubes and is says ..

And that turned out to NOT be the case.

This only becomes a big deal with the JL 445s as all need more than the 3.7-4.2 vdc
we can get from single battery 65mm long- thus it requires a pair of 16340s.

So the advice about the very best 16340s to buy is very correct and importent.
+3 I tried some ultra-fires that came free with a laser and they turned out to be worth EVERY penny I did NOT pay for them. You need to recharge three times to make three LPM graphs if they are more than one minute long..

I have not looked anywhere but I doubt any other laser maker regularly sells a longer laser than the Pl-Es with the second tube. The KingKongs are great batts and having two means LONG time until a charge is needed-

Glad you got the AW IMR's. They also come in an 18350 (which your unit won't fit unfortunately), 14500 and 18650 but once you get up to the 18350 I would be looking at the panasonic cells such as the NCR18650B (very big capacity) and the the NCR18650PD for huge current draw and the assurance that your unit is getting the most power it can get (rated for 10 amp current draw).
I generally buy the blue ultrafire batteries for standard use where the current draw isn't really an issue (such as all my small builds that use the Fasttech 532nm modules). Personally I only buy unprotected cells an have rarely run into spacing issues.
If you run into an issue where a unit can't handle the 4.2V peak of a fully charged cell then you can pick up some LiFePO4 at least in the AAA and AA size that run at 3.2V although the AAA ones capacity seems to be really low (mine are rated at 260mAh).
Suggest you get yourself some intellicharger i2/i4 chargers as they will charge a shocking variety of cells including Eneloops.

As far as spacers/adapters etc. goes, Fasttech has a huge variety for cheap and shipping is always free regardless of how little you spend. Just remember to try BLF for the discount code as it has always worked for me although not for every item in my orders. They also have some nice spacer magnets in various sizes just in case not to mention dummy cells (which they call "dummy placeholders" in the batteries section and they are in more than one location (they have black, white and yellow ones in the AA and AAA sizes but unfortunately that's it).
Anyways, I am quite familiar with what Fasttech sells as I must have spent over $1000 by now for pieces/parts.

*recommend the red cells in the AW IMR* The rating is lower than most batteries out there but it is either the true rating and everyone else is lying or it's actually rated way lower than actual*
