I'll be receiving the 2W-2.4W version of this laser soon

SF501B 445nm Blue

It needs 2 16340 batteries and all I have are some ultrafires I have around that I bought off ebay or amazon at some point in time and I keep reading that they are terrible, don't put out the advertised mAh and such.

I honestly don't know much about all the different companies that sell batteries and i can't seem to find a thread with enough consolidated info on them. The questions I have is should I get protected or unprotected, what brand should I get and what's the best battery to get the strongest output from the laser.

Ahh excellent choice on a laser. However if you notice on the jokers page battery recommendation is either 16340 or 18350 and I would choose the 18350. You will get higher capacity hence longer battery life. I have two lasers with that host and for me KeepPower and efest cells work great for me.

18350 KeepPower 900mAh ICR18350 Protected Button Top - Batteries - Batteries, Chargers, and PowerPax Carriers

Ah thank you, I'll pick up a few of those. I can't seem to find a charger that specifically says it can charge 18350s on that site though. Will the chargers that charge 16350 also charge the 18350?

On that same website under chargers you could pick up an Nitecore Intellicharge i2
For $12. They will charge 18350s. However the i2 is backordered so you could go with a i4 or find one somewhere else on online.

The exception is the 10440s some people don't recommend charging them with a few chargers because the current is too high.
With that said, most lithium ion charger charge most lipo batteries provided they fit in the charger. (If not some people use wires and magnets)
Hope this helps!

Thanks again. I'll get that i4 since it charges AAA batteries too and i have a few things that burn through 4 AAA at a time really fast.

The batteries I ended up ordering were 4 18350 KeepPower 900mAh ICR18350 Protected Button Top . The problem is one of them seems to be defective. The laser I said I ordered in the first post takes 2 3.7V batteries but when I use the one I think is defective it turns on only for a split second and turns off. If i replace the bad battery with a good one it works fine, so the laser works fine. The weird thing is though if i put the bad battery in a cheap chinese laser i got that only takes 1 battery, it works fine. My DMM broke so I can't check the voltage on the battery.

I'm thinking there something wrong with the protection circuit in the battery. Its cutting power on the high power laser because the current draw, but not on the cheap weak chinese laser.

Heres a video i sent to the RMA thing from the site i ordered the batteries from

Hmm, seems like you are in the right direction. Hard to say without a DMM. Did you contact the supplier? Are they sending you a new battery? On the bright side the laser isn't toast.

I sent the request in with the link to the video. I hope they don't want me to send the bad battery back though. I live in Canada and it would cost me more in shipping then it would cost to buy one at a store here. If i REALLY need to i have parts to build a voltmeter, but that would take waaaay too long.

I still haven't heard back from them about my dead battery :\. I've even gotten a replacement DMM and tested the battery. It just registers as 0 volts so matter what I do so the battery is for sure DoA.

Awww. Call the 1800 number listed on their site, tell 'em what's up. I'm sorry you have had such bad luck with the battery but ya, I'd buy one at the local ecig store if your laser is down because of it.

It's not down because of it I bought 4 batteries, but it means I can't have 2 charging while I use 2 in the laser.
