It should probably be fine for the IMR cells, buy a multimeter and just check on the batteries while charging. If you find they are charging to 4.2 or a little under you're fine. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

In every case that I've read about, with batteries going boom, usually it's a cheapo chinese battery. If you stick to brand name batteries, from known reputable sellers you shouldn't have any problems.

I agree !!

Unfortunately, all the rechargeable 123 cells I have seen,

are not from reputable manufacturers.

(no disrespect to Orbtronics)

Personally I've been picking up my 16340's either from Yobresal when he has them, or from lighthound, the red AW IMR.

Orbtronic batteries seem to be up to par... no idea what's under the wrapper. My only complaint about them, is the extra wrapping/protection circuit, for the 14500 especially, makes them unusable. I had one those 14500 batteries get stuck in my jetlasers Tib :eek:

The do outperform the AW counterparts actually... but then again, I never had the AW's stuck in anything, or not fit. :undecided:

grainde;

From the looks of your board,

the diode bridge shorted, creating a temporary short across the line.

It is more likely on 230 VAC mains with plug-in supplies.

Got it saturday. Used it to charge and top off about 30 batteries since... everything ranging from 10440 to 18650.

It's definitely a big step over the wf139's and such......

Thanks for the replies. I decided to go for an XTAR WP2 II in the end. It seemed to have good reviews and has been tried and tested. It was also cheaper than the other options on ebay! ;)

My AW IMR's are great and I would highly recommend them. I got them from CPF marketplace from AW.

Here's the link if you cant order from Yobresal...(He only does US/CAN)

AW's LiIon Batteries Sales Thread *Part 12*

On a side note, I tested the internal resistance of my AW's and Panasonics and posted in the How Healthy are your batteries thread. If Larry and IE, or any others for that matter, ;) would like to comment, I had a couple of questions! Cheers:beer:
