Re: Some kind of wierd flashlight build (In progress)

I know you've decided for 3 HID's but I had a cool idea :D

If you could use 4 HID's, 1 for each battery and have one in the middle and three around it you could put a larger reflector in the middle and make the middle HID for throw and the others for spill

GL man, cant wait to see the finished product :D

man that thing will weigh like 15 kilos :p
Gym time!

o yeah, It would be cool if you used a seperat flick switch for each HID on the back of the "torch" :p You know, the ones like on that video above and that light up a warm orange colour when on

that would be cool :D

This reminded me (somewhat) of a crazy build someone did on cpf in 2008.
400W HID Thor

^that, and this build are the kinds of things I like to follow and see the final results. Can't wait to see it in action whenever it's done. Find that 4th battery! lol

I think you should looking into going short arc. Could get some CRAZY power and you have room for a huge reflector. Handheld search light!

Re: Some kind of wierd flashlight build (In progress)

Thanks for the motivation everyone! I really apprecaite it.

@Jufran, that very build is what inspired me in the first place to work on this project, but later on I was talked into by several forum members to ditch the SST-90s and go for HIDs.

Probably HID wattage will be around 70-75W or a bit more per HID. right now im working on the HIDs and switching electronics (solid state relays rather then direct switches). So maybe after this ill consider a short-arc.

Ill need to finish designing some PCBs and etch em out later on, pics will come when I get around to some postable progress.

is that thing even going to be PORTABLE?

Portable? no
Luggable? yessss :) (Ill just strap it to my back or somethin....)

Right now at a halt because im working on a ton of other projects (Plus I just bought a big ass 532nm...so my pocket needs re-fueling)
(also, thanks to canada post on strike, some additional parts I ordered that I can't make won't arive till who knows when)

Probably will get around to making more parts for it late next month.

Hehe, I ended up needing to ditch my SLAs.. the total thing (3) draws about 34A at 12V... so I will need to find a lithium alternative, the 24A/H 4 pack just can't handle it.

These HIDs are bright as hell, but not too much progress on that light.. been really neglecting it. TBH this isn't my top priority right now, got some other projects I want to get out the way first.

I may be changing the host though to accomodate lithiums instead of SLAs. Im thinking lithium manganese should do the trick for the high amperage draw.
now question is to find some *affordable* lithiums needed for the power.
