Another light from DX:
- 2 modes: High, low
- digitally regulated or direct drive?
- manufacturer rated at 900 Lumens
- Orange Peel (OP) Aluminum reflector
- No mode memory (it's only 2 modes lol)
The light feels pretty solid and the anodizing is perfect, no scratches when I received it. There's a very small amount of wiggle room for 18650 battery and is able to fit both protected and unprotected batteries. It might be a tight fit for protected batteries though. When you screw on the tailcap it really seems to be a snug fit so that was a plus and no wiggling whatsoever with the battery inside even if you shake it around, really solid well made light!
As far as the modes go there's only 2, high and low. Now, the thing is the light is a reverse style clicky . Surprised me because the last few lights I bought from DX have been normal forward clickies. I guess it's just one of those pet peeves for me, but for some people it wont bother them.
For those who don't know the difference between a forward clicky and a reverse clicky:
Forward clickies - operate when you slightly depress the switch and the light is on are are able to switch modes as well. Sort of light a momentary switch. Depress until it clicks will maintain the mode. All maglites operate this way.
Reverse clickies - operate only when you fully depress and hear the click that the light turns on. Fully depress again to switch modes.
The lens on the SSC P7 is clear! Some people actually receive clouded lenses and can somewhat hinder performance. Don't really know why some of them get clouded upon arrival anyways ???
The light gets hot after a few minutes of continuous use on high. Almost as bright as my XM-L light but that was expected since SSC P7s have less efficacy than XM-Ls. I might actually believe the 900 lumen DX claims :shhh:
I measured the current at the tailcap and I got 3.21A on high using 12 gauge wire and only 2.56A on high using the stock test leads and a 2800 mAh Sanyo 18650 unprotected. Very happy about that! I found it interesting they used a resistor mounted on the clicky for the low mode so I couldn't test the current draw on low unless I took it out.
I cleaned all electrical contacts with DeoxIT cleaner and conditioner/enhancer.

Ultrafire Cree XM-L (left) Spiderfire SSC P7 (right):
15 second exposure into the night sky (sorry it might be sort of blurry):
Pros:
- Excellent build quality and clean upon delivery
- Excellent flood light
- Small, lightweight, but solid. Good for everyday carry (EDC)
- Simple 2 modes: high, low
Cons:
- noticable donut hole at long distances
- reverse clicky :gun:
And lastly one more picture of the view of the city from the mountains.
