Well....the flashlight bug finally bit. Never thought it would, but it has and I am not too terribly displeased by the fact :p

So, for my first flashlight I decided(with a lot of assistance from InfinitusEquitas) to go with the Crelant 7G2CS. As I have never done a flashlight review, I will do it THE SAME as a laser, complete with foggy beamshots ;) So, here 'goes!

NO. IT CANNOT POP BALLOONS :cryyy: But it did keep me from getting attacked by a Dog tonight, so you win some you lose some, more on that later.....

I ordered the product on the 19th of March(at 3am or so) from MD-Lightsource(if you are in Texas and need a flashlight I HIGHLY recommend these guys just for the shipping time. They are based in Houston so you do the math ). The product arrived on the 21st of March at 5:30 or so.

PICS:

It came in this:

Annnd some unrealistic numbers:

Here is a shot at the emitter......

More Shots of the "Host"(or just the flashlight.....)

The emitter on it's low output....managed to snap a pic without glare!

The head can be taken off for a "Candle Mode"......but it doesn't light matches or make my wallet smoke so whatevs.... :p

Stats:
Output: 658 Lumens
Range: 300 meters ( closer to 100 meters in my experience )
Modes: This flashlight features infinite variability which allows you to put the light at whatever brightness between low and high that you want. It also features a Strobe mode and an SOS mode. The strobe mode is blinding and dizzying, so should be effective. The SOS mode is annoying.....when I get deserted maybe not so much but for now I just skip it.

Now, about the numbers I mentioned before? This will not reach 300 meters.... so far I am seeing about 100 meters. Still a long way for a flashlight to hit, but not exactly up to spec as per their advertising.

Okay, so time to rate this experience:

Shipping: 10/10
Price: 9/10 [for 50 dollars this is an awesome flashlight!]
Output: 8/10 [This thing is DAMN bright! However would have been nice if their advertising claims stood up]
Quality: 10/10 [I am confident that this flashlight will last me a LONG time.]
OVERALL: 12/10

Why 12/10 you ask? Well remember that whole dog thing I mentioned earlier? Well I was out for a walk around 11:30pm and I had the flashlight in my hands as I had been out to a park to see how far the light would go. Well, on my way home I see a dog come out from the shadows and start its way pretty briskly across the street. Worse yet, looks to be a Pitt Bull mix and it is coming STRAIGHT for me. Well, I remembered reading that Lights of such high brightness could warn away animals and so I turned on all 658 Lumens and point it on the ground between me and the dog...I don't want to blind a dog, but I want the glare to hide how big I am to give the dog uncertainty. The dog faltered and skirted me a ways after that. Kept looking at me though so I kept the light on and trained close to him and take my eyes off him till he was out of sight.

So, I have felt the benefits of this flashlight and I say it is WELL WORTH the money I spent on it.

It is on sale for 44.99 from 59.95. I bought it plus an 18650 battery to get over 50 dollars for the free shipping, and then I used coupon code BLF to get an additional 10% off. All told was 53 bucks if I remember right.

Great review, I especially like that last pic!

About the Output/Throw/Advertising claims, I wouldn't put it past crelant to fudge the numbers slightly in their favor (most companies do) but primarily I think the fault lies with how the throw distance is determined.

In order for a light to be considered as reaching a certain distance, it only has to reach .25lux on the target. This is IMO very dim illumination, to a degree that standing far away, you would not be able to tell well, if, or how well an object is lit up.

If there is also any kind of other illumination, this throws off the perception - basically moonlight on a clear night will outdo the illumination of the light at that distance.

Now I really can't wait to get mine, I got their nylon pouch in the coil pressure switch but did not get the battery as I'm going to use 2-18350 3.7v Ultrafire batt's that I have in it

Yeah if I need to I will do like DTR did with the Skyray host trimming down in the tailcap to accommodate the two batteries

Nah, no need to do that IMO, but two of those ultrafires are the absolute max in size, that can be used without modding anything.

I just ordered the 7G2CS today. I received the sale price, and also the discount, using coupon code BLF.

I did not have to meet the $50.00 min. for free shipping! Good deal. :)
