Seems like a good idea. In theory, those should allow you to set how floody you want the light, by varying the mounting distance.

You might could also make a blinder or shade to block your eyes from looking at the LEDs.

I love seeing folks use something, just because they had some lying around. Kind of like how I hate seeing folks buy flashlights, and then throw away the reflector, LED, and driver.

Snapped them on the LEDs

Here's the light output with the bare LEDs

Here it is with the lenses on

I'm getting about 5000lux at the bench surface with the lenses on and lamp at highest position, and up to 13,000lux with the lamp closer to the work area :D

Wow, yours is way more sophisticated than mine!

Mines an nonadjustable LED light bar with two Neutral White CREE MC-Es driven by a Xitanium 120VAC, 12W, 350mA Driver, all mounted on a piece of 1-1/2" Aluminum L bracket. The output largely eliminated the need for the old florescent fixture that used to be there. I wanted the tint neutral or daylight white because I mostly deal with wires, and some wires look alike under bluish light.

You'll notice a little gooseneck light on the side there, that's my "up close and personal" light if I ever needed it. The LEDs are premounted on 20mm star boards. If I ever needed extra light all I need to do is snap on a couple narrow optics.

Looks nice :) I'm actually planning on adding a 1m length of alu LED strip along the front of the workbench but that would add more power consumption on the RE system.

Ahh, okay, thanksxs I was wondering about
that.

It looks like there are 4 diodes on the output.
I wonder why they would do that.

Judging by the wire colors, I think you mean input. Specs say: "Input voltage: AC / DC 12V" so that's going to be a full wave bridge. Waste of power if you're running it on DC, for sure.

Mine tends to be at my computer desk or on top of the dryer with a flashlight in my mouth and reader glasses:)

I use LED bulbs for mine but there are now LQD bulbs. Liquid cooled and can be used in enclosures without over heating. I have 29 bulbs in my home now.

searched about those LQD bulbs. interesting tech. Too bad it doesn't come in 12V variants for off grid use.

Where can you get them for under $60?
They also look like they would cast a
shadow directly above the bulb.

Otherwise they do look good, though I'm not
sure why they went with silicone over DI
water.

I got mine on the 'Bay ---
Their name is "Switch" and an
old dimmer works with these.
DI water tends to have a triple point
when it gets cold.
