Tbh; I am not sure the exact wiring scheme needed to interface the Workhorse 5 to the SOX lamp, I am only sure that it can be done successfully with no additional circuits after being told so by several people experienced with the setup. I was told the ballast will come with instructions on how to wire it to a single tube in the wattage range needed and to just follow the one for a non filament tube.

Hmm, I'm curious now. Fulham also have a 70W single lamp 277V ballast. The workhorse 4.
If I run this ballast on 240V instead of 277V, will it's output also be lower?
In other words, could I get away with running a 55W lamp safely from a 70W ballast if I power the ballast from a lower voltage?

AFAIK These ballasts are designed to automatically limit current to no more than the lamp takes at full power, so you could run a 12W SOX lamp off of a 200W ballast even without any problems.
About the voltage discrepancy, the 277 has a range of allowable inputs centered around 277V which ranges from 249V to 304V. Here's the datasheet: http://www.fulham.com/PDFs/SpecSheets/WH4-277-L-2006-19SP-REV A.pdf

You could also make a stepdown transformer for 240 to 120 and run it off that, it's a pain if you've never rewound/wound a transformer though.

Mmm, the top one is a bit too high powered I think. Since you're only running 1 lamp from it, I think that it'll try dump as much power as it can into that one lamp (Halved between the 2 outputs) .

Tube and 230V ballast on their way, damn it, more money gone!!
Sure it'll all be worth it once I fire it up and see how beautiful it is. After all, who doesn't want their own street light?

Hehe, nice Things! Aye I got the old "you bought a $75 lightbulb!!! Why?!" from the wife. She doesn't really mind, but she doesn't understand either. I find that appreciation for things taken for granted only comes with deeper understanding od said things. She looks at it and sees a yellow light. I see a tube full of beautiful plasma resonating at the characteristic wavelength of Na+ ions as determined by the electron shell jumps/falls. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

And yeah, it takes a certain kind of interest to justify these things. To everyone else, it's just a yellow light.
The reason I love LPS so much is because it takes forever to warm up, and as it does so, the colour change is awesome. Don't get that with LED's or even most arc lamps these days.

I love them because they use sodium metal to produce the yellow light , and as you said the colour change is aswome ,
I just orderd a 180W ballast and my 180W LPS should arrive today too .
