Would this be a suitable host?

Why not? Just contact Eudaimonium, Flaminpyro or Mrcrouse, as they all make custom heat sinks! You could perhaps also try Jayrob, he might have a kit available...

Basically all I have is the host. Nothing else, no diode, nothing. :(

Well pretty much any flashlight or in fact box will work. All you have to do is fit a heatsink, module for the diode, diode, driver, batteries and lens. Id suggest looking up the exact name of the light you have and typing it into the search bar, maybe someone has built one before and written a review on how to do it! ;)

Edit: Ill have a look for a post I made on sourcing cheap parts for a red laser...just a mo

The battery I have comes from a Lazerer 200mW red laser, I'm guessing it would be suitable...?

Sorry still looking.

Anyway, you need to decide what you want to build and go from there. Do you want a red, blue, violet or green laser. Do you want a single mode (lower power, but nice spot) or a more powerful multimode with a line or bar output? Once you have decided you can then choose a driver and what current it needs to be set at. Then you can decide on your battery combination, which will basically be selected by the driver you choose...

I'd most likely want a green laser that has a nice strong beam! :)

Ah, that was of course the most difficult and expensive option! Well you'll have to look at ordering a completed module. Unless you have the experience and know how to make one ;)

I think Jayrob is selling some powerful 532 modules, he also builds kits so maybe he can machine a custom heat sink for your light at the same time...

Edit: Here is his FS thread for the Lasevermdules: http://laserpointerforums.com/f39/fs-pl-series-modules-lasever-lab-industrial-77194.html

What about a 445nm?

Contact DTR he sells them with drivers and modules as an option. It will also be much cheaper than a 532. Youll still need a heat sink, so if you choose a 445 try contacting one of the people I mentioned earlier.
