Nah, not yet, I may put my toe in the water but I'm still kind of on a power/throw binge, and still looking for the perfect EDC.

My tint snobber is so far limited strictly to cool white vs neutral white that we see between u2 and t6.

I reckon if you will be lookign for an EDC thrower, you might be going into the XP-C or XR-C class of LEDs. Don't underestimate the power of a handful of lumens in a dark room, though, in your search for the ultimate illumination device!

Not sure if it's classed as EDC but i ordered a Nitecore Ea4 which seems to be reasonably compact runs on common batteries and should be pretty bright and throw well.
(i haven't received it yet but i have seen lots of good reviews)

Some more beamshots from tonight. There are three new lights in the lineup, a 7G3CS XMLU3, an Eagletac G25C2 MarkII XMLU2, and a stock Crelant 7G5CS XMLT6 also with aspheric.

For comparison purposes the modded Crelant 7G5CS Aspheric with better driver, and dedomed XMLU3 is again at the end.

Photos didn't come out quite as good this time... I was rushing a bit too much I guess.

@Paddy - I do have an EA4, and think it's an excellent little light. I'll add to the lineup next time I do this. I think it's throw is actually somewhat understated... it's certainly on par with some other XML lights.

Up next, to this I will also add Jetbeam M2S, Jetbeam BC25, Fandyfire Rook, BLF Edition Trustfire A8, and Palight V60.

You can tell the difference clearly to the modded and stock from those photos, the (i wanna call it focal point? but i'm not sure) seems to only just at the tree distance on the modded yet on the stock it looks closer.
Btw, since you have the EA4 what batteries do you use in it?
I usually go for GP 2700 for all my AA needs but had 8 die on me within 6 weeks of buying them and i'm not sure i want to go back, i did find these but not sure if my GP power-bank will charge em; Sanyo eneloop XX 2400mAh AA rechargeable batteries: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

My camera is not quite up to the task, but the difference is pretty clear IMO. The modded crelant has a tighter beam, with a closer focal point, and it's also somewhat more hazy.

The stock Crelant has a better more sharpy defined beam, a nicer spot, with a further focal point. The actual termination point appear to be brighter on the modded crelant.

I tend to use Eneloop 2000mAh batteries with the EA4. The XX will have slightly higher capacity, but not worth the price jump imo.

I really need to come up with a better place to do these kinds of beamshots... at these distances you're not seeing the full story.

I'm guessing the 1900 eneloops are actually 2000?
Golf courses are great for flashlight comparing, I live like 100 meters away from one and can't keep away from it at night xD
The best option though are driving ranges, already got the distances marked too.

The funny thing about driving ranges, is they make it clear that the signs tell us HALF the distance. At night, if you are testing and you can see the 500 yard sign, but not the 1000 yard sign, that tells you the light was able to travel the 500y there and 500y back to "see it." but the light couldn't make it the 1000y there and 1000y back again.

When lighting the 500y sign, the light throw is 1000y, right?

Hmm, a driving range! That's an interesting idea actually. I'll need to see where we have one. I'm sure they won't care at all if I come over to make some flashlight beamshots.

For now I think I'll end up using a slightly different angle and same location (almost) to reach 100 meters, and possibly a nearby park, where I can get a distance of up to 200m.

So far in person, with the exception of the 7g3cs, all the other lights EASILY reached 75 meters. Even the 7g3cs did, just not as well.

I picked up 16 when they were $17 per 8 pack on sale. I also have other brand nimhs, MaxPower, Maxell, and Duracell. All seem to work ok... though admittedly I haven't used them all that much.
