Yeah I realize that some people are not going to want the complete build...

That's why I showed a tutorial style thread with links to all of the perts for those who want to buy my $39 dollar heatsink (which is the key to the good heat management), and DIY... :)

A $!#$#$_#@%!#-ing bright led!

well.. I got a SSC P7 from dx once.. a pretty BRIGHT led.. rated 900 lumens. shame that they don't sell it anymore :(

i also had that one. a aurora flashlight. how is an XM-L LED compared to a SSC P7?

I now have a phenix TK45 but looking for a small flashlight like those XM-L's on DX.

whats the best of these?

But it could be those 510 lumens are accurate while others are not.
Someone gimme a advice for the perfect xm-l thrower now on dx(not the 2x 18650)

To get 500 lumens from an XM-L emitter, you have to have over an Amp. Maybe 1.2 Amps or so...

So in a small light, the run time will not be very good if you tried to go for 1000 lumens.

Plus the issue of heat management...

You can measure the current draw at the battery to get an idea of run time...

If it's drawing near 3 Amps, then it is probably putting out what they claim. But at that current, your run time will be an hour or less with an 18650...

I've been using my UniqueFire T6 for two weeks now and I want to give it a big thumbs up.

$29.80 - UniqueFire T6 XM-LT6 3-Mode 750-Lumen White LED Flashlight with Strap (1*18650) - 18650 Cree Flashlights

Tailcap current draw with the black&red TrustFire 18650:
High: 2.9A
Low: 0.1A
Strobe: n/a

The flashlight came with a couple of tiny scratches on it, but after a while it will get scratched anyways (HA-II anodizing). It is way brighter than your usual R2 lights, and the perfectly centred LED with deep smooth reflector gives you a lot of throw.

The driver with mode memory works really well.

I've got an Eastward YJ J01 on the way. I'll compare them and if there is anything worth mentioning I'll post it here.
